About the Workplace

The City Management Office is the administration of the City Council and the Municipal Assembly.

The office's mission is to support the City Council in leading, coordinating, and monitoring the operations, economy, and other strategic planning of the City of Gothenburg.

Job Responsibilities

We are now looking for a data protection strategist with a focus on data protection and information security.

As a data protection strategist, you will work in the data protection function belonging to the Legal Area at the City Management Office. The data protection function is tasked with coordinating and leading the city-wide data protection efforts. The function aims to ensure that data protection work in the city is conducted in a strategic and purposeful manner. Established in the autumn of 2024, the function is still in a development and establishment phase, and you will have a significant opportunity to contribute to and influence the strategic setup of the function to conduct a well-coordinated effort for the City of Gothenburg's data protection work. Issues related to information and cyber security are also central to the work.

In the Legal Area, there is also the legal department and the city's whistleblower function. The area is led by the chief city lawyer and is one of six areas in the City Management Office. The data protection function consists of three positions, one of which has become vacant, which is why we are now seeking a replacement.

In the role of data protection strategist, you will help lead and coordinate the city-wide work on data protection for the City of Gothenburg's administrations and companies.

Your main tasks will include:

  • Developing city-wide processes for the fundamental work on data protection issues
  • Conducting data protection legal investigations and drafting proposals for governing documents, templates, and guidelines
  • Participating in working and project groups on issues related to the city's data protection work
  • Supporting administrations and companies in city-wide data protection matters
  • Coordinating city-wide work on impact assessments
  • Conducting training and networking meetings
  • Being responsible for newsletters on data protection
  • Participating in consultation work

As regulations regarding information security and cyber security are under development, these issues will also be highlighted.

As a data protection strategist at the City Management Office, you will have the opportunity to work on interesting issues alongside knowledgeable colleagues. You will be part of an area characterized by a very good collaborative climate, great engagement, and a lack of pretentiousness.

We are eager to promote a sustainable work life. Everyone is involved in the area's development, and there is a high level of trust in you as an employee. We work in pleasant premises at Gustaf Adolfs Torg and offer employee benefits such as flexible working hours, wellness grants, and cycling benefits.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Relevant academic education, for example in law, information/cyber security, data and system science, IT, or other equivalent education/experience.
  • Good knowledge of data protection legislation and relevant work experience.

It is an advantage if you have:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the Act on Information Security for Essential and Digital Services (NIS/NIS2) and other relevant legislation and associated regulations.
  • The ability to drive and coordinate projects and change efforts.

The personal qualities we highly value for this position are a good ability to be self-driven and to collaborate with others, being service-oriented and solution-focused.

To thrive in this role, we believe you are an engaged and outgoing person with a service mindset who easily builds good relationships with your clients. The work requires attention to detail, good judgment, and the ability to work independently and in a structured manner. The work may sometimes involve a high workload, and you need to be able to prioritize and focus on the most urgent issues. The City Management Office requires good communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
