Assistant at the Department of Peace and Conflict Research
The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was founded in 1971 with the aim of conducting research and offering education in the field of peace and conflict studies.
Today, the department is a young, dynamic, and international workplace with about 90 employees and around 1000 students from all over the world. Courses are offered within bachelor's and master's programs, and we also have a doctoral program. More about the department's activities can be found at http://www.pcr.uu.se (http://www.pcr.uu.se).
The Alva Myrdal Center for Nuclear Disarmament (AMC) was established in 2021 at Uppsala University to provide education, research, and policy support on disarmament issues. AMC studies the entire disarmament process; conditions and obstacles, negotiation and decision-making, as well as implementation and verification. The department and AMC are now seeking an assistant for 20%, from February 16, 2026, to June 19, 2026.
Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities that an assistant may undertake include teaching, administration, or participation in research or artistic research. The tasks for this position involve further developing AMC's database on disarmament agreements (amcdata.uu.se/en (http://amcdata.uu.se/en)) together with Working Group 3 at AMC and leading the data collection efforts, as well as gathering and coding information on disarmament agreements. Writing texts and research reports in English, as well as data management, will also be part of the responsibilities. The work is carried out in accordance with AMC's established coding rules and conceptual apparatus and is performed in a small group, where the work requires a high degree of independent analytical capacity.
Qualifications
To be employed as an assistant, it is a requirement that you are admitted to education at the undergraduate or advanced level. For this position, the following requirements also apply;
- Bachelor's degree in peace and conflict studies, international relations, or another related field
- Good knowledge of international disarmament agreements since 1918
- Documented experience working with the development of datasets (coding rules, scales, variable construction)
- Experience in coding and data management
- Excellent proficiency in English (written and spoken)
- Good analytical ability
- Good ability to work independently
- Good collaborative skills.
Meritorious
Good knowledge of AMC's established coding rules and conceptual apparatus.
About the Employment
The employment is: temporary according to HF 5 chap § 12. The scope is: 20%. Start date: February 16, 2026, or by agreement. Location: Uppsala.
