Mark Combat School (MSS)

The role of the Mark Combat School (MSS) is to create conditions together with other parts of the army to ensure that the Mark Combat School can solve its assigned tasks in the best possible way, both nationally and internationally. MSS also performs tasks for the entire Armed Forces, such as the development and procurement of soldier-carried equipment, firearms, and support weapons. Within this framework, the Mark Combat School trains the future leaders of the Armed Forces using advanced training facilities and extensive knowledge.

MARK COMBAT SCHOOL CREATES THE ARMY'S CAPABILITY IN THE FIELD BY:

  • Training army leaders and specialists
  • Training and exercising the army's combat units.
  • Developing the army's type units, equipment, and methods.
  • Responsible for 1. Division Staff

About the Development Unit

The Development Unit of the Mark Combat School provides the Army Staff, Defense Staff, and other parts of the Armed Forces as well as other authorities with results from trials and studies, decision support, and advice. The unit is organized into a unit management and six departments, including one unit and capability-oriented department, one study and experiment department, two type unit departments battalion with material responsibility for standard vehicles (one in Skövde and one in Kvarn, Borensberg), one command and control development department, and one publications department. The Development Unit leads, on behalf of and in close cooperation with the Army Staff, capability development at type units division, brigade, maneuver battalions, and independent companies.

Main Responsibilities

A development officer plans and partially leads and coordinates the development activities based on established operational goals. This activity is both broad and deep within a function/department that often forms part of a larger operational area. The time depth of the activities for type units can vary from a few years up to a 15-year perspective. The work is performed independently based on plans, guidelines, and practices within the subject area of type units as a representative for mechanized battalions within the brigade framework. This may include method, tactics, combat techniques, and organizational development.

Tasks

  • Plans, leads, or participates in projects concerning type units, e.g., studies, type unit developments at brigade level, material or unit trials,
  • Coordinates the impact of functions on type units
  • Maintains a network of contacts with influencing areas within the Armed Forces as well as with FMV, FOI, or other actors

Qualifications

  • The position is at level OF3/SO8, but with relevant background, experience, and service time, the Mark Combat School can be a natural part of your career development and level-enhancing training
  • Experience from battalion staff
  • You have a good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish and English
  • Driver's license class B (manual)

Personal Qualities

We are looking for someone who has a good ability to collaborate and cooperate both internally and externally with the Mark Combat School and the Armed Forces. You have a strong desire to develop yourself and your area of responsibility. You are driven but patient and have a good ability to work independently and goal-oriented. You have high integrity and are security-conscious. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

Meritorious

  • Practical and extensive experience from brigade, equivalent
  • Practical experience of development activities at units, schools, or centers.
  • International experience
  • Experience (theoretical and practical) from combat technical level, e.g., company/battalion, in order to bring the user perspective for its included material systems

  • According to cooperation, another location than Skövde may be the starting point for the work
  • Business trips occur frequently, nationally and internationally
