Payroll Specialist at SMHI
Do you want to contribute to SMHI's mission to create value for society by ensuring high-quality payroll management and supporting the organization in employer policy issues? At SMHI's HR unit, meetings and dialogue are our most important tools for supporting the operations.
We are now looking for a payroll specialist who wants to be part of our unit, where we work together on everything from payroll production to contract interpretation and strategic development of leadership and employee relations. The HR unit currently consists of 3 payroll specialists, 6 HR specialists, and a HR manager.
As a payroll specialist, you will play a central role in ensuring that our employees receive the right salary on time and have the opportunity to contribute to the development of our payroll and personnel administrative processes. In addition to ongoing payroll tasks, you will provide administrative and consultative support to the organization on issues related to contracts, salaries, and compensation, and you will also assist in other tasks within the HR unit. In 2025-2026, we will be facing a new procurement of payroll and scheduling systems – an exciting opportunity to influence SMHI's future system support in this area.
Job Responsibilities
- Be responsible for payroll administrative tasks, including registration, reconciliation, and payroll production in the personnel and payroll system Primula and the scheduling system Besched.
- Support managers and employees in questions regarding the payroll process, such as legal and contract interpretation, employer certificates, and contact with other authorities.
- Provide support in the use of personnel and payroll systems.
- Prepare statistics and reports.
- Contribute to SMHI's internal governance and control by ensuring that the payroll process meets the agency's requirements and goals.
- Participate in the development of new working methods and processes and work closely with HR specialists on joint issues.
- Assist in HR administrative tasks.
- Be involved in the procurement work for a new payroll and scheduling system.
Your Profile
Qualifications
Requirements:
- Education as a payroll specialist or equivalent experience deemed comparable by SMHI.
- Several years of experience in qualified payroll administration and working with payroll systems.
- Good knowledge of the Office suite, especially Excel.
- Very good knowledge of Swedish and good knowledge of English, both spoken and written.
Meritorious:
- Competence in scheduling, system management, and procurement.
- Competence in producing statistics.
- Competence in various types of contracts.
- Experience in implementing a change of payroll systems.
- Interest in/experience of HR administrative tasks.
- Experience in digitalization.
- Experience from government operations.

You have strong communication skills and enjoy working both independently and in a group. You work in a structured manner and find it easy to take your own initiatives. You are flexible and can switch between different tasks based on the needs of the organization. A pedagogical approach is essential, and you are attentive, patient, and eager to develop in the role.
