Economist at the Swedish Prison and Probation Service
The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society becomes safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, remand facilities, and client transport.
The unit for the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's Service Center (KSC) is part of the headquarters and belongs to the department for prisons, remand facilities, and probation, providing support to the entire authority in financial and personnel administrative processes as well as managing and developing them.
The position is located within the section for Financial Administration. The section is responsible for the ongoing accounting and bookkeeping of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, including supplier invoices, e-commerce and orders, customer invoices, payments, inmates' funds, operational accounting, year-end closing, and system management.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
We are now looking for an experienced Economist for the Swedish Prison and Probation Service who will work with inmates' funds. In this role, you will primarily work with clients' funds and also the authority's ongoing accounting, reconciliations, preparing monthly and annual financial statements, account responsibility, performing controls, quality assurance, and providing documentation for accounting and year-end closing.
The work also includes preparing materials and conducting training and workshops, as well as conducting operational visits to support and develop colleagues in the core operations who work with client funds.
You will also provide operational support regarding inmates' finances in prisons and remand facilities, as well as to other colleagues within your area of responsibility. You will work in a team and also provide support and guidance within your area of responsibility. The role also involves actively working on streamlining and automating routines, work methods, and monitoring what is happening within the authority.
The role also includes other tasks that are commonly performed within the section.
QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who has:
- A degree in economics or other education combined with experience deemed relevant by the Swedish Prison and Probation Service
- Several years of experience in finance
- Experience in year-end closing work
- The ability to express yourself well in spoken and written Swedish
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel and Word)
It is an advantage if you have:
- Other training in public accounting
- Experience working as an economist
- Experience working within the Swedish Prison and Probation Service
- Experience working with public accounting
- Experience working in public sector
- Good knowledge of accounting principles and good accounting practice
