Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics

SciLifeLab (https://www.scilifelab.se/ (https://www.scilifelab.se/)) is a national center for molecular biosciences focusing on research in health and environment. The center combines leading technical expertise with advanced knowledge in translational medicine and molecular biosciences. SciLifeLab is a national resource operated by Karolinska Institute, KTH, Stockholm University, and Uppsala University. The center collaborates with several other universities.

Job Responsibilities

Your main responsibilities as a medicinal chemist will be to plan and conduct your own experiments: synthesis planning, synthesis, isolation, and characterization of new bioactive compounds in several parallel drug projects, as well as maintaining our lab functional and user-friendly for everyone together with other team members.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements: We are looking for a junior organic chemist who has completed a master's degree in medicinal chemistry. Experience in independent work with iterative design and synthesis in the field of medicinal chemistry, including identification of synthesis routes (SciFinder or Reaxys), multi-step synthesis, purification of compounds using chromatographic methods (e.g., flash, autoflash, prep LC), and structural determination using 1D and 2D NMR and LC-MS is required. The experience must be documented through publications/patents or, for example, an academic report. You should be able to express yourself well in English, both orally and in writing.

Desirable qualifications: Experience with documentation in electronic lab notebooks, broad experience in organic chemistry, and experience studying structure-activity relationships from data in electronic systems (CDD, Scarab, Dotmatix, or similar). It is important that you are a highly motivated researcher with the ability to function well in a multidisciplinary environment and have a quality and results focus.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities such as communication skills, self-motivation, teamwork ability, service orientation, and prioritization skills. It is important that the applicant can start immediately.

About the Position

The position is permanent full-time with a six-month probationary period. Stockholm University applies individual salary setting. Start date according to agreement.
