Job Advertisement: Employee for the Resource Efficiency Unit

Do you have experience contributing to more sustainable value chains by promoting resource-efficient solutions such as better design, longer lifespan, and reparability? Then you could be the employee who strengthens the Resource Efficiency Unit.

The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (Naturvårdsverket) works to provide the government with well-analyzed decision-making support and to drive the development of climate and environmental policy within Sweden, the EU, and internationally.

The Resource Efficiency Unit works to develop and implement instruments and measures for a socio-economically efficient transition to a circular economy from a life cycle perspective. The unit works for circular economy, resource efficiency, and waste prevention in various value chains and material flows such as plastics, critical raw materials, textiles, and food. The assignment also includes contributing to climate and environmental work within the EU and internationally.

Your Responsibilities

You will actively contribute to the transition in society towards higher resource efficiency and sustainable circular economy. The starting point is analysis and knowledge of flows in various value chains as well as the conditions and competitiveness of actors. With this, you contribute to the effective implementation of legislation and assess whether set goals will be achieved. You work for resource-efficient solutions such as longer lifespan, repairs, and circular business models.

Your tasks include gathering information, drawing conclusions, and translating these into action. Reading, interpreting, and understanding regulations is part of the job, as is being able to act from a government perspective. You will work together with colleagues with similar tasks and with lawyers and communicators, as well as collaborate with various actors in society. The position may involve representing the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency in various contexts by, for example, giving lectures or speaking to the media. Participation in negotiations and meetings in EU contexts may occur.

Over time, priorities in value chains may vary and requirements from legislation may change.

Your Qualifications

Requirements for Employment

  • You have a degree in a relevant university or college education, e.g., engineering or natural sciences, or equivalent.
  • Approximately 5-10 years of experience in successfully creating conditions to reduce resource use, through, for example, extended product lifespan, reparability, and reuse.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation in circular economy such as the Ecodesign Regulation, Critical Raw Materials Act, and/or Waste Directive.
  • Relevant knowledge in one or more value chains or flows such as critical raw materials, electronics, and construction.
  • Project management skills in projects with more than one participant.
  • Ability to quickly familiarize yourself with new value chains, create understanding of flows and actors, as well as their needs and conditions.
  • Good ability to express yourself succinctly in both speech and writing in Swedish and English.

Meritorious

  • Experience in driving collaborative processes with actors in a value chain.
  • Ability and experience in analyzing and forecasting the development of flows within a value chain, for example, in relation to set goals.
  • Experience in developing instruments.
  • Experience in using AI responsibly and safely in a professional context.

To succeed in this role, you need to have a good ability to collaborate and cooperate, work efficiently and results-oriented, be analytical and flexible, and act professionally, in our case from a government perspective. We place great emphasis on personal qualities.
