Do you want to help shape the sustainable society of the future?
Producer responsibility is a rapidly growing area that plays an important role in circular economy and resource efficiency. We are now strengthening our team in this area and are looking for several case officers who want to help develop and implement regulations that make a difference – both in Sweden and in the EU.
Producer responsibility is an area undergoing significant change. The EU has recently decided on two new producer responsibilities: one for textiles and shoes and one for pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. New producer responsibility legislation is being negotiated for end-of-life vehicles and is expected to be proposed next year for electronics. We are in the midst of implementing new regulations related to batteries and packaging. The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency currently has five government assignments directly related to various producer responsibilities.
The government has announced increased funding in this area, which gives us the opportunity to invest for the future. Therefore, we are strengthening the team in the Producer Responsibility Unit and are looking for case officers with different levels of experience: both experienced case officers with broader experience and deeper knowledge in the field (this ad) and case officers who are at the beginning of their careers and want to grow into the role (separate ad).
As a case officer with us, you will be part of a team that works on guidance, case processing, development, and implementation of legislation related to nine producer responsibilities and also administers the system of littering fees. The responsibility for supervision within producer responsibilities will, from the turn of the year, lie with our new sister unit for producer responsibility supervision and market control. We work closely with lawyers, statistical officers, and economists from other parts of the agency.
Your tasks
Your tasks include providing guidance to various stakeholders, processing incoming applications and notifications, stakeholder dialogue, and expert support to the Government Offices in the area of producer responsibility. An important part of the work is to contribute to the effective implementation of producer responsibility legislation. It may be relevant to participate in government assignments, in EU expert groups, and in the agency's work to develop regulations in the area.
We work in teams and share responsibility for the entire unit's mission. The distribution of tasks therefore varies over time. Since we are looking for several case officers, we will adapt the division of roles based on the individuals we hire. We primarily see that we need to ramp up within producer responsibilities for packaging, end-of-life vehicles, and electronics, as well as within the system of littering fees. In the coming years, we will have an increased focus on guidance and stakeholder dialogues.
