Expert with Life Cycle Knowledge Wanted at the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency

Do you want to contribute to sustainable value chains together with your colleagues? We are looking for an expert with life cycle knowledge who wants to help contribute to effective legislation and other instruments for sustainable value chains.

The Resource Efficiency Unit works to create conditions for sustainable production and consumption from a life cycle perspective. The unit works for circular economy, resource efficiency, and waste prevention in various value chains and material flows such as textiles, plastics, critical materials, and food.

Your Responsibilities

You will work on describing how the environment is affected in different value chains from a life cycle perspective and develop and implement instruments that are both effective for the environment and smooth for the actors involved. Implementing EU legislation where LCA has gained a larger role will be an important part of the work, for example in issues related to system boundaries and allocations. The Ecodesign Regulation will be significant legislation, but you will also support other legislative and policy processes within the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency.

Your tasks will include gathering information, drawing conclusions, and translating these into action. Reading, interpreting, and understanding regulations is part of the job, as is acting in accordance with the authority's role. You will work alongside colleagues with similar tasks, as well as with lawyers and communicators, and collaborate with various actors in society. The position may involve representing the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency in various contexts by giving presentations or speaking to the media. Participation in negotiations and meetings in EU contexts may occur.

Your Qualifications

Requirements for Employment

• University degree in a relevant field
• 2 to 5 years of professional experience working with life cycle assessments including conducting LCAs
• Ability to apply LCA knowledge in various policy and legislative contexts as well as for circular issues. A prerequisite is the ability to understand the relationships between and assess the consequences of different alternatives to provide balanced recommendations. This may include the design or selection of parameters within LCA and other tools in legislation.
• Skill in conveying complex content related to LCA in a simple and understandable way, with a good ability to express yourself fluently and concisely in both spoken and written Swedish and English.
• Ability to analyze the conditions of actors for sustainable value chains, assess what is significant and what is minor, and how well numbers reflect reality. Ability to quickly familiarize yourself with new value chains.

Meritorious

• Knowledge of life cycle impacts and industry conditions in at least one specific sector such as construction or another relevant sector
• Experience in successfully reducing resource use through measures such as extending product lifespan, repairability, and reuse.
• In addition to applying LCA, a deeper understanding of the LCA process, for example through research projects
• Ability and experience in developing forecasts for the development of flows within a value chain
• Experience in conducting third-party reviews of LCAs
• Project management skills in projects with more than one participant.
• Experience in using AI responsibly and safely in a professional context

About the Employment

The position is a permanent full-time employment that begins with a six-month probationary period. The position is located in Stockholm or Östersund. Start date as soon as agreed. We apply individual salary setting. Travel in the service may occur.
