About the position

As an analyst, you will work on sophisticated questions to produce decision and knowledge support materials that contribute to increased quality and efficiency within the military defense. Analytical support, method development, investigations, and research are examples of tasks that may be included in the role.

The work is carried out both independently and in collaboration with clients and colleagues at FOI's various units and departments. The tasks may have a long-term focus and require work under short timeframes where quick, well-founded conclusions are needed.

Our analysts can be located both at FOI in Kista and on-site with the Swedish Armed Forces, primarily at the Naval Staff in Muskö or at the Supreme Headquarters in Stockholm. Field and exercise activities with irregular working hours may occur to some extent.

Due to the nature of the work, the job is primarily performed on-site, either at FOI or with the client. The possibility to work from home is therefore very limited and can only occur in exceptional cases when operations allow it.

About the unit

The position is located within one of the units under the operations analysis business area, which is part of the Defense Analysis department.

Together, our employees in the Defense Analysis department form a unique analytical organization with a broad range of experiences and academic disciplines. The department is characterized by our ability to combine analysis and research to cross-disciplinarily identify, describe, and solve complex problems. We contribute to increased mutual understanding between actors in the total defense and to strengthening society's ability to meet future challenges.

Many of our analysts work integrated with our clients to directly support operations in direction, planning, monitoring, and evaluation. Our primary client is the Swedish Armed Forces.

Do you have the competence profile we need?

Requirements

• academic education at master's or master's level in natural sciences or social sciences, or alternatively a civil engineering degree. You may also have acquired equivalent competence through relevant work experience or other relevant education assessed to provide equal knowledge and skills,
• at least three years of current experience in qualified analytical work, research, or investigations relevant to our operations,
• good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written.

To thrive in the role, you need to find it easy to collaborate with colleagues, clients, and other stakeholders. You have very strong analytical and problem-solving skills and can handle complex issues in a structured manner. The role also requires that you can work independently, adapt your approach to the situation, and act with high integrity.

Meritorious

• knowledge of qualitative and/or quantitative analytical methods,
• knowledge within the naval area,
• experience from the maritime sector,
• knowledge of the total defense, especially within the military defense.

The position is a permanent employment that may be initiated with a six-month probationary period.
