In the role of economist with us, you will participate in work such as the budget bill, agency mandates, and preparing decision support materials for political leadership. We work on how the state should govern the municipal sector, general state grants, the equalization system, and municipal legislation. The questions often require economic and legal considerations to be woven together. Occasionally, it involves drafting legislative products together with the unit's lawyers. The position may also involve responsibility for the unit's budget coordination, meaning you have an overarching responsibility to project manage and coordinate issues related to the unit's work connected to the budget process. Here you get the opportunity to work on issues close to societal development that vary based on political priorities.

You participate in briefings and reviews with the political leadership. The position also involves many contacts with other units and ministries. The work is varied, with a mix of long-term structural issues and quick assessments. You are expected to drive processes forward, anchor decisions, and actively participate in our collaborations. High collaboration skills, clear social interest, and adaptability to different conditions are important qualities for you to succeed in your work. You also need to understand the importance of proposing action alternatives to realize the political goals set.

The Municipal Unit is part of the Department for Public Administration, which is responsible for procurement issues, state employer and administrative policy, consumer issues, digitalization of the public administration, as well as digital infrastructure and security. Economists, lawyers, and political scientists work closely together on the department and unit level. It may also become relevant to have corresponding tasks in another unit on the department.

Your background

We are looking for you who have an academic education in economics. You also have several years of current and relevant experience in working with budget, accounting, or governance issues in public operations. Furthermore, you have knowledge of municipal economic issues or public economics.

The following is considered meritorious:

• experience of working with municipal economic issues
• experience relevant to the position of working with municipal accounting and/or auditing
• experience relevant to the position of working with municipal economic issues in a municipality or region
• current and relevant experience of work from the Government Offices
• knowledge relevant to the position regarding municipal operations, municipal accounting/auditing, or public finances
• knowledge of auditing in the public sector or private companies, as assessed by the employer
• knowledge of administrative policy and state governance of the municipal sector
• experience of working in the IT system Hermes

We offer a permanent position starting with a six-month probationary period.

Start date as soon as possible according to agreement.
