FOI is seeking: Analyst in Military and Civil Defence

Are you drawn to working on complex issues that contribute to the development of Sweden's total defence? Do you have experience in analytical work and are interested in applying a scientific approach to support decision-making? Then FOI could be your new workplace! We offer a balanced work-life, a stimulating work environment, and socially impactful work!

About the role

As an analyst, you will work on various issues aimed at producing decision-support and knowledge materials that contribute to increased quality and efficiency within the military defence. In this role, you may work with analytical support, method development, investigations, and research.

The work is carried out both independently and in close collaboration with clients and colleagues. Tasks can be long-term and in-depth, but may also require working under tight deadlines where rapid analysis and conclusions are needed.

Our analysts work both at FOI in Kista and on-site at the Swedish Armed Forces Headquarters, for example at the Supreme Headquarters or at one of the service branch staffs in Muskö, Uppsala, or Enköping. Work may also be conducted at other authorities, such as the Civil Contingencies Agency and the Government Offices. Some field and exercise activities with irregular working hours may occur.

Due to the nature of the work, it is primarily performed on-site, either at FOI or at the client's location. The possibility to work remotely is therefore very limited and can only occur in exceptional cases when operations allow it.

About the department

The Defence Analysis department is a unique analytical organization with a broad range of experiences and academic disciplines. We are characterized by our ability to combine analysis and research to cross-disciplinarily identify, describe, and solve complex problems.

Through our work, we contribute to better mutual understanding among total defence actors and to strengthening society's ability to meet future challenges.

Do you have the competency profile we need?

Requirements

  • a master's or equivalent degree in natural sciences or social sciences, or a civil engineering degree. You may also have acquired equivalent competence through relevant professional experience or other education assessed to provide comparable knowledge and skills,
  • at least five years of recent experience in qualified analytical work, research, or investigations relevant to our operations,
  • good proficiency in Swedish and English, both spoken and written.

To thrive in this role, you must be able to collaborate effectively with colleagues, clients, and other stakeholders. You have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and can handle complex issues in a structured manner. The role also requires you to work independently, adapt your approach to the situation, and act with high integrity.

We place great emphasis on your personal qualities. Prior experience with total defence matters is not required to be considered for this position.

Preferred qualifications

  • experience in experience management (lessons learned),
  • experience in project/assignment leadership.
