Media Production is part of a larger research environment, the Dalarna Audiovisual Academy (DAVA), where you are expected to participate actively and thereby contribute to the development of both research and teaching. DAVA includes bachelor's and master's programs in Audiovisual Studies.

In the basic education, the position plays a central role in strengthening the progression between design, technical understanding, and analytical perspectives within DAVA's program offerings. In research, the position contributes to the development of the area of, about, and through media production in close collaboration with industry actors. We want you to further strengthen our ability to attract external research funding.

Your working day as a University Lecturer

The position involves teaching and research in the subject of Media Production at the Department of Media Production.

The employment includes teaching and supervision in media production at undergraduate and advanced levels, with a focus on scientific problematization, writing, theory, and methodology. The teaching also includes practical production moments within media production. The duties also include course responsibility and course development in the subject's various educational programs at undergraduate and advanced levels, as well as other administration.

Academic leadership tasks such as program responsibility and subject responsibility may be included.

Are you the person we are looking for?

According to the Higher Education Ordinance and the Employment Regulations, one is eligible for employment as a University Lecturer in non-artistic activities who has demonstrated pedagogical skill, has obtained a doctoral degree or has equivalent scientific competence, or has other professional skills that are significant with regard to the subject content of the employment and the tasks to be included in the employment.

For this position, the following are required:

• The applicant must have a doctoral degree in a media production-related knowledge area. This includes, but is not limited to, media technology, innovation and design, informatics, visual communication, or interaction design.
• Production experience, preferably within film, advertising, TV production, or game development.
• Active in research, documented through scientific publications and participation in research projects during the last three years.
• The applicant must be proficient in both Swedish and English, both orally and in writing.

The following are meritorious:

• Experience with specific production tools.
• At least five years of teaching experience at both bachelor's and master's levels.
• University pedagogical education.

When assessing pedagogical skill, emphasis will be placed on:

• Ability to create conditions for student learning as well as the ability to create engagement and interest in the subject.
• Experience of teaching at different levels.
• Experience of supervising theses or degree projects.

When assessing scientific skill, special emphasis will be placed on:

• Breadth and depth in research.
• The relevance of the research production in relation to the employment profile.
• Independence and renewability as a researcher.
• The scope of the research shown through nationally and/or internationally published works.
• Having been an applicant and/or co-applicant in national and/or international calls for research grants.
• Shown ability to collaborate with the surrounding society through the communication of research results.

For the role of University Lecturer, teamwork skills are required, and leadership skills may be significant.

A large part of the work takes place in work teams and in collaboration with the surrounding society, which may entail requirements for good initiative, administrative ability, and a high degree of responsibility to succeed in the role. It may be required that you have good communication skills in both Swedish and English, both orally and in writing.

It is important that applicants who lack the eligible university pedagogical education upon employment are given the opportunity to acquire this competence as soon as possible.

Assessment Criteria

The University will make a qualitative overall assessment in this recruitment to determine which applicant has the best prerequisites for fulfilling the tasks in the employment.

Equal care will be given to the examination of pedagogical skill as scientific skill according to the Higher Education Ordinance (HEO) Chapter 4. A pedagogical test will likely be applied. In the case of permanent employment of a University Lecturer, an expert assessment of the applicants' eligibility and skill will take place.

The Employment

The employment is a permanent position, 100% full-time, with an earliest start date of October 2026. Probationary employment may be applied. Dalarna University is a higher education institution operating in two locations. The place of employment for this position is Falun. The position entails physical presence in Falun as all teaching takes place on campus.
