Clinical Studies Sweden - Forum Söder is a unique regional support function with the mission to support and promote clinical research in the Southern Healthcare Region. We offer support and services to researchers, research staff, and life science companies conducting clinical trials in healthcare. In this way, we work to make Sweden an attractive country for conducting clinical studies, which contribute to the development of new and innovative products and treatment methods, benefiting patients and society. Forum Söder also has the mandate to act as the regional node for the Southern Healthcare Region within the framework of the national collaboration Clinical Studies Sweden, supported by the Swedish Research Council. Our operations comprise around forty employees and are located at Skåne University Hospital in Lund.

RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Project Economist, you are responsible for the financial dimension of the Grants Office's work; from budget planning prior to application to basic financial monitoring and reporting in awarded EU projects. You are a key resource in the pre-grant phase: research groups without budgeting experience need qualified support to set up realistic, compliant budgets that hold up all the way to the final report. You have a good understanding of the financial rules of EU programs and can translate them into practical guidance for clinical researchers.
Your responsibilities include:
- constructing and reviewing project budgets prior to applications to various funders such as VR, Forte, EU, and foundations
- advising research groups on national funders' cost rules and eligible costs
- providing knowledge regarding EU budget models and financial project conditions
- supporting the post-grant phase for awarded EU projects: budget structure in the EU Funding & Tenders Portal, time reporting systems, and cost monitoring
- preparing and compiling material for economic project reporting prior to submission and being the main contact for economic auditing by third parties
- collaborating with economic managers at administrations and departments for correct cost allocation and internal invoicing
- monitoring changes in funders' financial regulations
- training research groups in basic budgeting principles for external funding.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for you who have:
- a university or college education in economics, accounting, public administration, or similar
- at least three years of experience in economic work in the public sector or academic environment, or equivalent experience as assessed by the employer
- a good understanding of project-based economics and external funding
- the ability to communicate financial requirements and regulations in an understandable way for non-economists
- very good language skills in Swedish and English, both spoken and written
- good proficiency in working with Excel and economic systems.
It is meritorious if you have:
- experience in the economic administration of EU-funded projects (Horizon, EU4Health, or similar)
- good knowledge of the EU Grant Agreement and the rules for economics (Financial Regulation)
- experience with budgeting and monitoring work at Region Skåne or a similar public organization
- knowledge of Region Skåne's economic systems and internal accounting model
- experience with the Swedish Research Council's or Forte's budget models and requirements for cost specification.
To thrive in this role, you need to be service-minded and motivated by providing qualified support to researchers and contributing to successful applications. The work requires a structured approach, good analytical skills, and an interest in interpreting and applying funders' regulations. Project budgets are a central part of the quality and feasibility of research applications. Therefore, it is important to be able to combine financial accuracy with a pedagogical approach that makes complex cost rules understandable and usable for researchers.
The role involves many contact points and periods of high work pace, which places demands on good prioritization skills, independence, and the ability to handle several parallel processes simultaneously. We are looking for you who share the Grants Office's conviction that qualified economic support is an important prerequisite for more clinical studies to be conducted. An active interest in continuous learning and knowledge sharing within the team is therefore a natural part of the assignment. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
We warmly welcome your application!
We plan to conduct interviews in weeks 38-39.
Employment type: Permanent position.
