Do you want to help young people find their way to the future? Do you thrive in a role where you can combine guidance, collaboration, and development to give students the best possible conditions for their future studies and career choices? Then we need you!
Welcome to our team at Vansta School – here you have the opportunity to make a real difference for our students every day.
Responsibilities
As a Study and Career Counselor at Vansta School, you will be a key figure in our vision: that all students should reach an advanced level in their learning. You will be there as a guide when they navigate through upper secondary programs, career paths, and dreams about life after compulsory school. Here, you will combine individual conversations with students, inspiring classroom sessions, and smart collaborations with teachers, student health services, and guardians – all to make the future a bit clearer and less stressful for our students.
You work both preventively and promotively, with a focus on equity and accessible guidance for everyone. This includes, among other things, leading information meetings, organizing activities such as workplace prep (prao) and high school fairs, and ensuring that study and career guidance is a red thread throughout the teaching. In short: you help our students see opportunities, find direction, and dare to aim high – regardless of their starting point.
About the Workplace
Vansta School is located in Ösmo and is part of Nynäshamn Municipality's schools, with a clear societal mission and a focus on safety, quality, and equal education. We are a grades F–9 school as well as an adapted compulsory school for grades 1–9, with a total of approximately 700 students.
Here you will meet a school where we seriously invest in student health, study environment, and an inclusive learning environment. Our common compass is to create a school where all students both thrive and develop – and where study and career guidance is a natural part of the school's mission.
You will become part of a dedicated staff group, including teachers, special education teachers, student health services, and school leadership, who enjoy collaborating, trying new working methods, and finding smooth solutions together. We work structured and long-term, but we do not lose warmth or humor along the way. Here, decisions are close at hand, paths to the manager are short, and there is high tolerance for ideas on how we can become even better.
What We Are Looking For in You
We are looking for you who are passionate about supporting young people in their choice of studies and careers, and who want to help make our vision of advanced learning for all students a reality – not just fine words in a document. You like to have your own conversations and step into the classroom, and you thrive when you can make information concrete and understandable. You are secure in your professional role, enjoy collaboration, and see the value in guidance being something we do together throughout the organization.
To succeed in the role, you have:
To succeed in the role, you need a stable foundation, both theoretically and practically. You combine professional counseling with good knowledge of the education system and the labor market, and you are accustomed to guiding students through important decisions.

- At least one year of experience working as a Study and Career Counselor
- Good knowledge of the Swedish school system and upper secondary school offerings, including adapted compulsory school
- Good knowledge of the external environment regarding education, professions, and the labor market
- Good digital competence and experience working in student administrative systems
- Very good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing.
It is meritorious if you have:
In addition to the basic requirements, we see it as an extra plus if you have experiences that allow you to quickly settle into our daily routine and contribute to elevating study and career guidance to the next level. Here we appreciate both broad experience and curiosity to develop working methods together with us.
- Experience in study and career guidance in compulsory school grades 7–9 and adapted compulsory school
- Experience working in public operations or municipal schools
- Experience leading information meetings or lessons in whole classes
- Experience collaborating with guardians and external actors
- Good knowledge of local and regional education and career paths in the Stockholm area
- Knowledge of special support and adjustments related to guidance.
Personal qualities we are looking for
In this role, you need to be communicative, receptive, and structured – a person who can both listen to students' thoughts and simultaneously keep track of schedules, application deadlines, and information flows. You meet many different students, guardians, and colleagues, and need to be able to adapt your way of informing so that everyone feels safe, included, and well-informed.
You are relationship-building and know that trust is built over time, both with students and with the school staff. You have a solution-oriented approach and see obstacles as something you can find ways around together. Humor, patience, and a non-hierarchical attitude make you thrive with us – we take the mission seriously, but we feel better when we can laugh together along the way.
What We Offer You
- With us, you get to make a difference in people's lives. Here you are close to your manager and colleagues, with influence and decision-making power.
- Nynäshamn is a calm and safe municipality. Safety is also found in our teams – we are non-hierarchical, encouraging, and support each other when needed.
- Nynäshamn Municipality is part of one of Sweden's strongest growth regions. Our journey gives you the opportunity for challenges and varied tasks.
- We offer access to a gym. You also receive a wellness hour or wellness allowance.
- You have the opportunity to exchange vacation days and pension benefits.
- We have an active staff association where you can rent cottages in the mountains and in the archipelago. You can also participate in various activities such as padel, kayaking, and horse riding.
Our Recruitment Process
We apply continuous selection and use a competency-based recruitment method for a fair and objective assessment. Diversity is an asset, and we welcome all applicants. Nynäshamn Municipality has chosen to remove the personal letter and replace it with selection questions relevant to the position.
