Your responsibilities

The purpose of the appointment as Assistant Professor is to give the teacher the opportunity to develop their independence as a researcher and to gain merit both scientifically and pedagogically to meet the requirements for eligibility for a position as Professor.

The Division of Cyber Security (CYBER) at the Department of Computer and Information Science conducts research as well as undergraduate and graduate education in cyber security, artificial intelligence, network technology, communication systems, and reliability. In the research, special efforts are made at the intersection between cyber security and AI, as well as in security for critical infrastructure. As an Assistant Professor in Computer Science with a focus on cyber security, you teach at the undergraduate and advanced levels, in both Swedish and English, and supervise students within the department's subjects. The work includes course development, course responsibility, and participation in educational administrative tasks related to the cyber security area.

You conduct research in cyber security, with a particular focus on, for example, security in critical infrastructure, AI for cyber security, cyber security for AI, or related areas relevant to the division's research profile. The research is primarily conducted in English.

You are active in the research community, participate in the division's activities such as seminars and workshops, participate in research projects, communicate results through scientific publications, and contribute to attracting external research funding.

You actively contribute to the university's development work. Collaboration is an integrated part of the university's research and education mission. Collaboration in education takes place by planning, organizing, and implementing good education in interaction with actors from the surrounding society. Collaboration in research takes place by spreading, making available, and utilizing research. The appointment may also involve administrative duties, such as being a Programme Director or working with education boards. We also welcome your participation and interest in leadership roles.

Your work includes following developments nationally and internationally within your field of study and the societal development in general that is significant for your work.

Your qualifications

We are looking for you who have a doctoral degree or equivalent scientific competence. We primarily seek you who have obtained your doctoral degree within the last seven years.

For this position, special emphasis will be placed first on scientific competence, second on pedagogical competence, and third on other competencies which are assessed as equivalent to each other.

The following will be assessed regarding scientific competence:

Requirements for the position are

• documented scientific competence in cyber security or related areas.
• ability to independently conduct high-quality research.

Particularly meritorious is:

• experience of research in cyber security related to AI and/or critical infrastructure.
• breadth and depth in research as well as its originality and independence, documented through publications in leading journals and at established conferences in the field.
• ability to formulate applications and attract external research funding.
• experience of national and international research cooperation and participation in the research community, for example through review assignments.

In computer science and cyber security, it is considered that publication at leading, peer-reviewed conferences weighs as heavily as journal publication.

The following will be assessed regarding pedagogical competence:

Requirements for the position are:

• ability to plan, conduct, and evaluate teaching at the undergraduate and/or advanced level in computer science or cyber security.

Particularly meritorious is:

• ability to have a reflective, student-centered approach to students' learning and to the teacher's own role.
• ability to develop and renew the content, forms, and examinations of teaching.
• engagement in pedagogical development work and ability to collaborate on teaching with the surrounding society and colleagues.

The following will be assessed regarding other competencies:

Meritorious is:

• documented competence in collaboration in education and research.
• good knowledge of Swedish.
• administrative competence related to educational activities.
• good teamwork skills as well as demonstrating independence and initiative.

Since teaching and/or research takes place in both Swedish and English, you must be able to demonstrate the ability to teach and/or conduct research in English, and it is desirable that within two years you can teach and/or conduct research in Swedish.

About the position

For this position, the appointment period is 5 years full-time. Commencement according to agreement.
