Do you want to help drive the future of train travel? SJ is making its largest investments ever in new and modernized trains. As an Engineer specializing in electrical and communication systems, you will drive the development and management of the X2000 fleet, ensuring that technical solutions meet future needs.
Your upcoming role
We are making our largest investments ever in our vehicle fleet to enable more people to choose the train for sustainable travel. We now offer an opportunity to be part of this incredibly exciting work, where you, as an Engineer specializing in electrical and communication systems, will play a key role.
Your task is to contribute in various ways to developing and managing our vehicle systems in a cost-effective manner throughout their lifecycle, based on customer needs and SJ's goals regarding safety, quality, economy, and sustainability, among others. You are part of Team X2's technical competence within the vehicles' electrical and communication systems. Your main focus will be on communication systems. The electrical systems cover the train's power supply and power systems, for example, drive systems, electrical distribution, and components that enable the operation of the vehicle. Communication systems cover information transfer and control, such as data exchange between vehicle and track, onboard networks, as well as signaling and control systems.
The role thus involves an important interface between vehicle technology and IT, where you contribute to ensuring a robust, safe, and future-proof holistic solution. In the role, you will work on both your own development and investigative work, as well as support the rest of the group's tasks. You will become part of a group where collaboration and cohesion are important and where we have fun together.
You will, among other things, work with:
- Managing and developing vehicle systems, vehicle technology, and the maintenance system, as well as maintaining and improving safety. Examples include TCMS, ATC, ETCS, PIS, and train radio.
- Working on requirements for maintenance, technical modifications, conversions, and refurbishments of vehicles, as well as following up on contracts.
- Contributing vehicle expertise in projects and working groups.
- Being involved in and leading smaller projects and vehicle changes.
- Leading technical investigations and preparing material for decisions and procurements.
- Working with operational safety, RCM analyses, and traffic safety assessments.
- Coordinating and driving team issues at the interface with IT.
Team X2 is part of the Vehicle Division, which is responsible for the vehicle fleet's lifecycle and ensures that complete, clean, and safe trains are delivered on time. The Vehicle Division has approximately 900 employees with mixed competencies, such as technical specialists, vehicle engineers, comfort operators, safety coordinators, vehicle operators, and production developers.
Expectations of the person we are looking for
We are looking for someone who is independent, enjoys problem-solving, and wants to learn about both proven and new technical solutions. As a person, you are structured, driven, and quality-oriented. You are used to working in teams, good at collaborating, and have good communication skills; you are proactive and willing to take personal responsibility. Complex issues are not something you shy away from, and you understand both the big picture and the details. You can clearly communicate requirements to suppliers and designers who will realize your ideas and investigation results. Since you have many internal and external contacts in this role, we want you to be good at collaborating and building relationships. You are unpretentious, curious, and generous in relation to your colleagues and contribute to a strong improvement culture. Strong interest in technical development and in building future climate-smart travel by rail.
- Technical generalist competence and high competence in the field of electrical and communication systems.
- Civil Engineer or equivalent.
- Several years of experience in electrical and communication systems.
- Good Swedish and English in both speech and writing.
- Good IT skills (MS Office environment).
- Advantageous with experience of TCMS (Train Control and Monitoring System) or similar control and monitoring systems in industry, automation, or the transport sector.
- Advantageous with experience of electrical systems in rail vehicles, train computers, and/or signaling systems.
