The Registry and Archives Unit, located within the administrative section of the Municipal Executive Board's Department, is now looking for several archivists/archive assistants for project employment in the municipal archive. Start date is by agreement.
The unit currently consists of approximately 14 employees in roles such as archivists, registrars, and object managers, led by a unit manager.
About the work
We are now looking for several newly graduated or junior archivists/archive assistants for a 1-year project with the possibility of extension, in the municipal archive.
In 2028, Huddinge Municipality will move to a new municipal house. In preparation for the move, extensive work is underway to organize, repack, and quality-assure the analogue records of the municipal archive. The project is practical and operational and involves important work to ensure that the archive holdings are preserved and can be moved in a safe and structured manner.
The work consists of, among other things:
- repacking documents into new archive boxes
- sorting and organizing documents
- removing harmful materials such as plastic, staples, and folders
- labeling archive boxes according to instructions
- in some cases, making simple assessments from a preservation perspective
The work is sometimes physical and can be monotonous, but at the same time requires precision, structure, and endurance. You will periodically work independently in an archive environment and therefore need to be comfortable working alone and taking responsibility for driving the work forward.
The work takes place both in the municipal archive and in our external depot in Flemingsberg, where you will periodically work in a smaller group. Therefore, good communication and collaboration are important, both with the closest colleagues on site and with the rest of the team.
Depending on time, you may also be able to support operations at other locations during certain periods.
About you
We are looking for someone who is precise, responsible, and enjoys putting their archival competence into practice. You like order and structure and have the ability to maintain focus and quality even in work tasks that are repeated over time. You are self-motivated, proactive, and not afraid to get your hands dirty when needed.
We are looking for someone who has:
- education in archival and information science. We would like you to attach your degree/transcript certifying this.
- knowledge of and interest in archival and document management
- good ability to work methodically, precisely, and independently
It is meritorious if you:
- have practical experience of archival work, preferably with analogue documents
- have worked in the public sector previously
You are communicative and find it easy to collaborate and share information with colleagues, even when you work at different locations. We place great importance on personal suitability.
Why this assignment?
This is an opportunity to put your archival education into concrete practice and contribute to a project with long-term significance for the municipality's information management. You will gain experience from a real and extensive archive project in a large public organization – a good springboard for your career in archival and information science.
At the municipal archive, one municipal archivist and five archivists work today. The municipal archivist is also the team leader for the group.
We can offer you a workplace to grow in with engaged colleagues and clear goals and direction for the operations. You will be an important part of the preparations for the municipality's largest archive move.
To be able to carry out our assignment, you as an employee in Huddinge Municipality are the most important thing we have. Therefore, we offer a number of benefits for a sustainable working life and to facilitate your everyday life: See benefits (https://www.huddinge.se/arbete-och-karriar/arbeta-i-huddinge-kommun/#Formaner)
