Do you want to work with environmental and climate challenges? Do you want the opportunity to look beyond national and international perspectives and contribute to reduced emissions of fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-gases) and ozone-depleting substances? We are now strengthening our F-gas working group.
Reduced emissions of F-gases and ozone-depleting substances are an important piece of the puzzle in reducing climate emissions and achieving the goals of a sustainable society. Ambitious goals exist both nationally and at the EU level, and there is rapid development towards low carbon dioxide emissions, circular resource flows, and minimized other environmental impact. The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency has a supportive and driving role in environmental work and aims to achieve these goals, among other things, by providing guidance and supporting the government's work within the EU and internationally.
We are now strengthening the F-gas working group with an environmental specialist who wishes to contribute to this work. The position is located at the Environmental Protection Unit, which, in addition to responsibility for issues concerning F-gases and ozone-depleting substances, also works with permitting and guidance regarding parts of Sweden's basic industries such as quarries, mines, steel and metal industry, engineering industry, etc.
The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency is a flexible workplace that offers good opportunities to combine developing work tasks and leisure time. We offer you social and collaboration-oriented colleagues and an accessible leadership where we gather around our mission to improve the environment for current and future generations. In the department, you will primarily work nationally, but also with issues within the EU and internationally. You will have the opportunity for further specialization and competence development within your subject area and within the role as a civil servant.
Your responsibilities
You will work together with colleagues to reduce emissions of F-gases and ozone-depleting substances. The assignment includes providing guidance to supervisory authorities within your area of responsibility, engaging in dialogue with operators, industry organizations, and other actors, and providing technical expert support to other parts of the agency and, where applicable, to other authorities. You will contribute to supporting the government in EU work within your area of responsibility. Environmental monitoring is a natural part of the work.
You will have significant responsibility for organizing your work and collaborating with other competencies within the agency. The tasks are varied, so it is important that you are flexible and can adapt to new situations to thrive in the role. You will be part of a working group where your closest colleagues have both technical and legal competence, but you will also collaborate with others inside and outside the agency. The unit's different working groups also work together on cases and issues that overlap.
Your qualifications
We are looking for you who:
- have at least three years of technical or natural science education at the university or college level,
- have several years of experience working with environmental issues – for example, at an authority or in the private sector, and
- can express yourself well both in writing and orally in both Swedish and English.
The following are meritorious:
- Knowledge of equipment containing F-gases and regulations regarding F-gases and ozone-depleting substances,
- Experience with supervision, self-control, or guidance,
- General knowledge of waste management and recycling,
- Knowledge of PFAS,
- Knowledge of the use and regulation of solvents,
- Good knowledge of the Environmental Code and other relevant Swedish environmental legislation,
- Knowledge of the application of EU regulations, and
- Experience from a state authority, municipal operations, the consulting industry, industrial operations, or from the research world.
Personal qualities
You should also have good ability to:
- collaborate with both colleagues and other actors with different perspectives and competencies and contribute to well-functioning teams,
- see the whole picture in complex contexts and assess which issues are important based on the agency's mission and goals,
- take responsibility and drive the work forward, as well as plan and prioritize tasks in a structured manner even when the work pace is high,
- take initiative and see opportunities in development, and
- communicate and explain decisions and stances in a structured and pedagogical manner.
We place great emphasis on personal qualities and look forward to your application.
