Research Group Description
The Molecular Metabolism research group conducts diabetes-related research. For several years, our research has been at the forefront of the field, with numerous publications in high-ranking journals. The group is led by Professor Hindrik Mulder and Associate Professor Malin Fex and consists of research and technical staff. The activity is located at the Clinical Research Centre in Malmö. Tasks and Responsibilities
The tasks include conducting diabetes-related research projects, requiring the candidate to independently:
- Plan, conduct, and analyze advanced experimental studies in a laboratory environment.
- Establish and maintain cultures of various types of insulin-producing cell lines, isolate and culture primary pancreatic islets, and differentiate pluripotent stem cells into functional insulin-producing cells.
- Apply and further develop relevant molecular biological, cellular, and biochemical methods.
- Compile, interpret, and present research data, as well as author scientific articles for publication in international journals.
- Supervise students and junior researchers in laboratory work and contribute to a good research environment through knowledge exchange and collaboration.
Qualifications
The following qualifications are required for the position:
- A Ph.D. in medical research or a related field.
- Documented experience in research on pancreatic islet cells (β-cells).
- Practical experience in culturing and differentiating stem cells into insulin-producing cells.
- Good knowledge of molecular genetic methods, including experimental design and data analysis.
- Documented scientific production in the form of published articles in international, peer-reviewed journals.
- Experience presenting research results at national and international conferences.
- Good teamwork skills and the ability to work independently in a research environment.
The following qualifications are meritorious:
- Experience in analyzing cellular metabolism, for example using Seahorse XF technology.
- Practical experience with molecular biological techniques such as Western blot, RNA sequencing, and PCR.
- Experience in culturing primary islet cells and establishing and handling clonal cell lines.
- Experience with immunohistochemical and/or immunofluorescent staining, as well as work with confocal microscopy.
Other Information
The position is a fixed-term appointment (SÄVA) for 12 months, with a tentative start date of August 1, 2026, or as agreed. Full-time (100%).
