Are you a qualified lawyer looking to contribute to the fight against economic crime? At the National Economic Crime Bureau (Ekobrottsmyndigheten), you will work in a dynamic environment alongside highly qualified and engaged colleagues. We are now seeking a practicing lawyer with knowledge of data protection for our legal unit.

Workplace

The Legal Unit is responsible for ensuring quality, equality, and legal certainty in the agency's legal operations. The unit employs practicing lawyers and an archivist/clerk function. The agency's Data Protection Officer is also located within the Legal Unit.

The unit actively works on legislative processes, monitors legal developments, and provides qualified legal support to the agency. Responsibilities include responding to official inquiries, issuing opinions, and handling matters related to confidentiality and data protection. The unit also drafts and reviews steering documents, participates in training, and supports competence-building initiatives within the agency. It collaborates closely with other agencies with related mandates. The Legal Unit currently consists of approximately 14 employees and needs reinforcement regarding data protection and other relevant issues.

Job Responsibilities

As a practicing lawyer at the Legal Unit, you will have varied tasks including, but not limited to:

  • Answering questions regarding data protection and digitalization
  • Processing matters concerning public access to information and confidentiality
  • Working on legal development issues and providing qualified legal support to operations
  • Responding to official inquiries and monitoring developments in legislative matters
  • Handling general administrative law issues

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A law degree
  • Several years of experience in qualified legal work at a strategic level from another government agency, court, or similar organization
  • Good knowledge of and current experience working with data protection issues
  • High legal competence and the ability to apply it in practice
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Swedish and English.

Merits include:

  • Knowledge of and experience with public access to information and confidentiality issues
  • Notarial qualifications
  • Experience working in an agency with a law enforcement mandate.

You need to be a skilled lawyer with strong analytical abilities and good judgment. The role requires experience in presenting legally complex cases with well-founded solution proposals. The work often involves collaboration with others, both internally and externally, requiring excellent teamwork skills.

To thrive in this role, you must be independent, structured, and accustomed to handling multiple issues in parallel, even under time pressure. We view it positively if you are development-oriented and interested in contributing to the legal development at the agency as well as to the efficiency of methods and working practices in operational activities.
