Description
Gamlestadsskolan is a F-9 school located in the historic Gamlestaden district, serving children and students primarily from the local area and Eastern Gothenburg. The Gamlestaden district is currently in a highly expansive phase with several planned projects to establish it as one of Gothenburg's most important hubs for communication, housing, and services in the future.
Approximately 600 students attend Gamlestadsskolan in grades F-9, and we also have four after-school centers (fritidshem) where our youngest students can receive care. The school is organized into smaller units within the larger school to increase closeness and ensure every student feels seen. We actively work to create a "We-feeling" where teachers and students share responsibility for the school's environment and well-being.
The adapted compulsory school at Gamlestadsskolan is for children and young people with intellectual disabilities. We have five classes with just over 30 students, an after-school department, and an LSS (Act concerning Support and Service for Persons with Certain Functional Impairments) operation. The foundation of our work is based on the two curricula for subjects and areas of study, as well as the curriculum for the after-school center. In our pedagogical work with the students, we take a holistic view based on needs, prerequisites, and interests. The teaching staff plans, implements, and develops varied instruction, practice, and support for the students during school and leisure time, with the aim of developing them into independent individuals based on their prerequisites. We are flexible and see opportunities before obstacles. The work requires clarity, flexibility, clarifying pedagogy, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).
At Gamlestadsskolan, our goal is for students to encounter a learning environment throughout the entire school day.
Job Responsibilities
This is a combined position. During the school day, you work as a student assistant in the classroom together with teachers and other assistants. After school hours, you are responsible for the LSS operation, providing short-term supervision for school-aged youth over 12 years old. You plan and lead the activity and carry out the assignment together with student assistants. The young people you meet have intellectual disabilities and/or autism, as well as additional diagnoses.
Qualifications
We are looking for you who have documented experience working in schools with children with intellectual disabilities, autism, and ADHD. A requirement for the position is that you have documented experience in handling students with problem-forming and aggressive behavior with calmness and professionalism.
You have at least a three-year upper secondary education with a pedagogical focus and training in disability support, such as support assistant or resource teacher. You need to have documented experience and knowledge of how to write implementation plans according to assignments from social secretaries in the Treserva system. You have good knowledge of the LSS Act and can perform this part of the assignment with high quality.
You use Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS/TAKK), unimpeded communication, clarifying pedagogy, and low-affective handling. You are solution-focused, responsible in all situations, and find solutions to compensate for difficulties for students in the learning environment. You are relationship-building and have a professional attitude towards students, employees, and guardians. You have good cooperation skills and are responsive to your colleagues. You reflect on ethics and value-based issues. You have a strong commitment and a good ability to see each student's opportunities and needs, staying one step ahead. To motivate, inspire, and challenge students, you use your ability to show humility, warmth, and the ability to set boundaries. You are responsive, flexible, and patient.
The students/young people need support in social interaction, communication, and care. Therefore, you need to be secure, calm, and stable as a person. You must also be able to work independently and handle stress. You need to be a linguistic role model for the students and be able to express yourself well in Swedish, both verbally and in writing.
