Sweden's most beautiful workplace is looking for you to work as
Maritime Rescue Coordinator
based in Gothenburg
Do you want to lead rescue operations where your decisions can save lives? We are now looking for you who want to train and work as a maritime rescue coordinator and take on an important role within the state rescue service.
The Swedish Transport Administration (Sjöfartsverket) is responsible for maritime and air rescue services in Sweden. You will work at the Swedish Transport Administration's national maritime and air rescue coordination centre, Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) in Gothenburg, where rescue operations are led and coordinated around the clock – all year round.
The position is full-time and includes shift work in the rescue coordination centre as well as administrative operational development work during office hours.
About the role
As a maritime rescue coordinator, you are responsible for rescue operations from alarm to completion. Alarms primarily come in via 112, coastal radio, or emergency beacons. You assess the situation, make decisions about the operation, and lead the work together with your colleagues in the rescue coordination centre.
The work involves making quick decisions, adapting, and prioritizing tasks in complex situations. We also have close cooperation with other actors in vital societal functions. In addition to operational work, you also participate in developing the operations through various projects, including collaboration, technology, and education.
The Training
You will initially be employed as a rescue coordinator trainee and undergo extensive internal training. The training normally lasts up to 18 months but can be extended by an additional 6 months. The training begins with daytime studies followed by practice during shift rotation in the rescue coordination centre. After completing and passing the training, you will be appointed to a permanent position and work as a maritime rescue coordinator.
JRCC has an integrated operation for maritime and air rescue, which means that you will also be trained as an assisting air rescue coordinator at a later stage.
Who are you?
We are looking for you who have higher nautical competence (at least a sea captain's license). For the position, it is meritorious if you have worked at sea and/or served within the rescue service sector. It is also meritorious if you have experience from leisure boating and/or the aviation/air sector since we work integrated between maritime and air rescue.
You have good ability to express yourself in Swedish and English both orally and in writing, as well as good experience working in digital systems.
We place great emphasis on your personal qualities; you have good self-awareness and are a secure and stable person. The role requires that you are a team player but can also work independently, have the ability to lead others, and handle rapid changes in pace. You show good leadership qualities in practice and feel comfortable making decisions, both individually and in a group – even under pressure.
You are flexible, inspire trust, have good simultaneous capacity, and the ability to quickly analyze, prioritize, and adapt your work to the current situation. You are service-oriented with a clear desire to support and help others, while working in a structured manner.
You are unpretentious and communicate clearly. In critical situations, you remain calm, act professionally, and provide a secure support for people in crisis.
Other
The position begins with a fixed-term employment during the training period, which normally lasts up to 18 months but can be extended by an additional 6 months. The position may involve being placed on war footing at the Swedish Transport Administration. The position may require Swedish citizenship. Security clearance with register check may be conducted before an offer of employment is made.
