Do you have experience working with students with intellectual disabilities? Would you like to work together with engaged colleagues in a scenic and rural environment?
Then you should apply for the position of student assistant at the National Programme of the Adapted Upper Secondary School.
About the workplace
Ösby Adapted Upper Secondary School is located adjacent to Ösby Nature and Agriculture Upper Secondary School, approximately one mile outside of Sala. At Ösby, we offer the programmes Forest, Land and Animals, Property and Construction, as well as Vehicle Care and Goods Handling. The school operates a full-scale farm with a herd of 120 cows and a smaller number of other agricultural animals. The farm also houses a variety of other animals found in zoos and animal parks, such as donkeys, goats, snakes, spiders, and fish.
There are approximately 270 students at the school, of whom about 35 attend the National and Individual Programmes of the Adapted Upper Secondary School. At the Adapted Upper Secondary School, we work with clear structures and continuity to provide a safe school environment, while simultaneously offering students challenges that allow them to broaden their experiences. Each student has their own study plan, and we place great emphasis on the future, work, housing, and leisure time. The goal is for students to transition into employment after completing their studies.
Responsibilities
You will work with a first-year student at the adapted upper secondary school. The role involves providing support to the student in close collaboration with the teachers. You are expected to follow the student throughout the school day, both in the classroom, changing rooms, during breaks, and wherever needed. This requires experience in maintaining outdoor environments and handling animals such as cows, pigs, horses, and small animals like rabbits, birds, goats, fish, and reptiles.
You will have continuous dialogue with the student's teachers, school instructors, guardians, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications
We are looking for you with a high school diploma, preferably as an assistant nurse or with a background in childcare and leisure, and with extensive experience working with individuals exhibiting challenging behaviors, self-harm, neuropsychiatric disabilities, and intellectual disabilities, as well as experience working with older students/young adults. You should have knowledge of Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC), conflict management, clarified pedagogy, low-arousal approach, and oppositional defiant disorder.
It is of great importance to us that you have a positive attitude towards the role and good teamwork skills. You need to view situations from the student's perspective, and your empathetic ability is very important in this position. You are good at building relationships and reading people and situations. You see possibilities, are solution-focused, and flexible. You have good structure in your work and always strive to develop both yourself and the learning environment you work in.
Personal suitability is given great weight.
