Admission to the doctoral programme is regulated by the university's admission regulations, which compile national and local rules applicable for admission to postgraduate studies at Mälardalen University. The study place is combined with a full-time employment as a doctoral student during the period of study, which corresponds to four years.
Job Description
As a doctoral student, you will conduct research focused on the development and application of AI-based methods for energy system analysis. The work involves integrating AI methods with energy system models, as well as developing methods for transparency, explainability, and uncertainty handling, with a specific application within sustainable transition.
The employment also includes participation in teaching, for example through course modules and exercises. Supervision of project work may occur. Departmental work and teaching combined may amount to a maximum of 20 percent of working time.
Qualifications
To be admitted to postgraduate studies, the applicant must have basic eligibility and the special eligibility required by the subject, as well as be assessed as having the ability to benefit from the studies.
Basic Eligibility for postgraduate studies (according to Higher Education Act 7th Chapter, § 39) is held by those who:
- have completed an advanced level degree,
- have completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at an advanced level, or
- have acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way, within or outside the country.
Special Eligibility
The applicant must hold a Master of Science degree or a Master's degree in energy technology, technical physics, or a corresponding field.
Very good ability to express oneself in speech and writing in English is a requirement.
Selection Criteria
Selection among applicants who have basic and special eligibility shall be made with regard to their ability to benefit from the studies (Higher Education Act 7th Chapter, § 41).
In addition, selection among eligible applicants will be made according to the following assessment criteria:
- Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others
- Motivation and ability to communicate clearly
Meritorious qualifications include:
- Knowledge in LLM, deep learning, and Python programming
- Knowledge in power electronics
- Experience in modeling, simulation, and experimental work
In a combined assessment of suitability, personal qualities are also weighted. All employees at MDU are expected to collaborate and treat colleagues and students with respect, take responsibility for the operations and their own tasks, and contribute to a good working environment.
