Do you have experience working with students with intellectual disabilities? Would you like to work together with engaged colleagues in a scenic and rural environment?

Then you should apply for the position of Student Assistant at the National Program of the Adapted Upper Secondary School.

About the workplace

Ösby Adapted Upper Secondary School is located adjacent to Ösby Nature and Agriculture Upper Secondary School, approximately one mile outside of Sala. At Ösby, we offer the programs Forest, Land and Animals, Property and Construction, as well as Vehicle Care and Handling. The school operates a full-scale farm with a herd of 120 cows and a smaller number of other agricultural animals. The farm also houses a variety of other animals from the zoo and animal park sectors, such as donkeys, goats, snakes, spiders, and fish.

There are approximately 270 students at the school, of whom about 35 attend the National and Individual Programs of the Adapted Upper Secondary School. At the Adapted Upper Secondary School, we work with clear structures and continuity to provide a safe school environment, while simultaneously challenging students to broaden their experiences. Each student has their own study plan, and we place great emphasis on the future, work, housing, and leisure. The goal is for students to transition into employment after completing their schooling.

Responsibilities

You will be working with a student in year 2 at the adapted upper secondary school. The role involves providing support to the student in close collaboration with the teachers. You are expected to follow the student throughout the school day, both in the classroom, changing rooms, during breaks, and as needed. This requires experience in maintaining outdoor environments, vehicle care, and maintenance of equipment such as lawnmowers, cars, tractors, etc.

You will have continuous dialogue with the student's teachers, school instructors, guardians, and other stakeholders.

Qualifications

We are looking for you with a high school diploma, preferably as a nursing assistant or child and youth care worker, with extensive experience working with individuals with neuropsychiatric disabilities and intellectual disabilities, as well as experience working with older students/teenagers. You should have knowledge of Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC), conflict management, clarifying pedagogy, and low-affective handling.

It is of great importance to us that you have a positive attitude towards the role and good teamwork skills. You need to view things from the student's perspective, and your empathetic ability is very important in this position. You are good at making connections and reading people and situations. You see opportunities, are solution-focused, and flexible. You have good structure in your work and always strive to develop both yourself and the learning environment you work in.

Personal suitability is given great weight.
