Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

In this new research group, we focus on using synthetic biology to solve important challenges within regenerative medicine. To this end, we develop molecular tools and computer algorithms to predict and control cell behaviors useful for tissue repair. Our specific goal is to combine genome editing tools (e.g., CRISPR) with predictive algorithms to enable data-driven, precision-engineered control of cell identity and function, with a particular focus on stem cells.

We are based at the Department of Laboratory Medicine, which consists of seven divisions with both research and teaching activities. The department conducts advanced research encompassing both basic and applied research. All divisions collaborate closely with clinicians at Karolinska University Hospital. The Division of Biomolecular and Cellular Medicine (BCM) focuses on the use of cells, cell products, and modified biomolecules as new therapeutic tools, as well as on identifying and studying suitable biomolecular and cellular targets for treatment and diagnostics. The division is also affiliated with the Karolinska ATMP Center.

We are now seeking two research assistants with a strong background and practical experience in CRISPR technology, molecular cloning, and cell culture. Experience with stem cell and/or immune cell culture, single-cell RNA sequencing, and bioinformatic analyses is required.

Your role

We are looking for an ambitious and team-oriented player with a passion for pushing the boundaries of regenerative medicine by programming complex cell behaviors for next-generation cell therapies.

Your profile

We are seeking a candidate with a strong background in biomedicine and biotechnology, with experience in bioinformatics, who is eager to tackle major challenges in regenerative medicine using synthetic biology.

The candidate should:

  • Hold a Master’s degree in biotechnology, biomedicine, or a related field.
  • Demonstrate practical experience and proficiency in a range of laboratory techniques – specifically PCR, DNA/RNA extraction, molecular cloning, bacterial transformation, CRISPR, cell culture (stem cells and/or immune cells), transfection/transduction/nucleofection, flow cytometry, and immunofluorescence.
  • Demonstrate experience working with gene regulatory networks and bioinformatic analysis.
  • Be proficient in English and be self-motivated, meticulous, and cooperative, while also having the ability to work independently. We are currently a small and dynamic group where members are expected to be responsible team players who help each other. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability and the ability to collaborate effectively within the team.
