Statens institutionsstyrelse (SiS) is a government agency responsible for individually adapted compulsory care for young people with complex psychosocial issues and for adults with substance abuse problems. SiS also operates closed youth care facilities. We operate youth homes and homes for adults with substance abuse issues across the country. Working with us at SiS means your professional life will be an exciting challenge. Regardless of where you work in our organization or what role you have, you help create life-changing change.
SiS Youth Home Stigby on Visingsö has space for 35 young people and receives non-compulsory school-age boys with psychosocial issues, criminality, and substance abuse. The facility is divided into an MBB unit (reception and needs assessment), four treatment units, and a discharge preparation unit in Jönköping.
Job Description
The school operations at SiS Youth Home Stigby offer education for 35 young people. The students study within the introduction program. They are offered basic school subjects, various upper secondary school subjects, as well as vocational practical training with elements from working life in the form of APL (Work-Integrated Learning). There are four vocational programs: industry, construction, vehicle and transport, and restaurant and food programs. Teaching takes place in small groups. The school operations are a very important success factor within institutional care.
Your assignment involves teaching within upper secondary school but also conducting education at the basic school level, as many of our students do not have final grades from basic school. The majority of students have had significant difficulties in their previous schooling. To succeed in your teaching role, it is required that you can build relationships with your students – this is the starting point of our work, leading to students developing their learning and abilities. Our mission makes a difference, every day.
We work in work teams, and we expect you to contribute your knowledge, insights, and where collegial learning is a natural part of your teaching role. You become part of a team that works together for a positive work environment where everyone's ideas are respected and welcomed. Therefore, you need to be a warm, empathetic person driven by a strong inner passion and clarity in your approach. Being a colleague who shares knowledge and contributes to the sense of 'we' at SiS are other qualities that make you interesting. Equally important is that you have a positive view of people and the ability to handle conflicts constructively.
Working hours are during daytime.
Our vision is to be a place for change, and this permeates our treatment, our engagement, and our approach.
Qualifications
We are primarily looking for someone who has teacher certification in Swedish, Swedish as a second language, and English, and is qualified to teach at the upper secondary level. We also welcome those with teacher certification for grades 7–9.
We see the following requirements that you meet:
- A good view of students – where the equal value of all people is a given, and you have intercultural awareness.
- Pedagogical insight – where you are flexible in your thinking, creative, and enjoy working thematically and cross-curricularly together with other teachers.
- Relationship-building and empathetic ability, as you understand that relationship is the foundation of the student's learning and development.
- Ability to collaborate while also being able to work independently, structured, and take initiative.
- You are stable, have personal maturity, integrity, and are clear.
- Resilient – you do not give up at the first sign of difficulty but believe in the student and their ability to succeed in their learning.
- You must be able to express yourself well orally and in writing.
- Driver's License Category B.
Meritorious if you have:
- Qualification to teach other subjects.
- Previous experience teaching our target group.
We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
At SiS, we care about good employee relations. This means that as an employee, you take responsibility for your work, contribute to development, and participate in good collaboration.
