Statens institutionsstyrelse (SiS) is a government agency responsible for providing individually tailored involuntary care for young people with complex psychosocial issues and for adults with substance abuse problems. SiS Youth Home Långanäs receives non-compulsory school-age boys with psychosocial problems, criminality, and substance abuse.
Job Description
Do you want to help build a school operation in newly built school facilities? Now is your chance to influence students' futures and education in a creative and enabling school environment. SiS Youth Home Långanäs is looking for a teacher in English combined with other subjects, preferably music.
The school operations within SiS follow the same regulations as the rest of the school system. The school is responsible for the education of all enrolled young people. The young people residing at the youth home should receive the education they need and are entitled to. The placed young people are between 16 and 20 years old. Almost all teaching takes place within the framework of the introduction program; individual alternative, but there may also be compulsory school-age students as well as students within the framework of adapted school. All students have an individual study plan where they, together with a mentor and a study and career counselor, set goals and read basic school and/or upper secondary school common subjects based on their needs. Teaching is conducted full-time in small groups.
A positive attitude and belief in each individual's developmental potential are important. The students have varying experiences and results from previous schooling, which means that teaching needs to be built on good pedagogical relationships, be motivating, and be carried out based on the knowledge mandate. You plan, conduct, follow up, and document the teaching and are well grounded in all parts of the curricula as well as in grading. The position may include mentoring.
At the institution, there are several complementary competencies, and as a teacher, you are part of a cross-professional and joint work regarding the young people. Collaboration with, for example, nurses, treatment pedagogues, psychologists, etc., is therefore an important part of your duties. Many of us work together with care and have a holistic perspective regarding the young people.
As a new employee, we create an introduction program focused on safety and ethical aspects of the work to provide the right conditions for success in the role with us.
Qualifications
- Licensed teacher in English combined with other subjects, preferably music, for the later years of compulsory school and/or upper secondary school
- You have the ability to plan, teach, and follow up on your teaching.
- You have experience in pedagogical work in a school environment.
Merits:
- Having a broad subject competence and complementary subjects
- Documented special pedagogical knowledge; insight into different diagnoses, experience working with young people in need of special support and institutional care.
- Previous work within the introduction program or work in special teaching groups.
- Ability to speak several languages.
You need to be attracted to teaching and building trusting pedagogical relationships in small teaching groups consisting of students with psychosocial problems and criminality. It is important that you can identify and meet the student's needs with high realistic expectations and motivate and lead the student towards their goals. We would like you to be calm in pressured situations, unpretentious, flexible, able to set and maintain boundaries in a respectful way, and have faith that all students can find a path to education and work. You have good cooperation skills, high social competence, a positive view of students, and are proactive. You also understand the importance of adapting to changed circumstances and see the benefits of changes.
You participate in development work to achieve the school's goals and always take responsibility for your tasks by planning, organizing, and prioritizing the work in an efficient manner. The work requires that you have good ability to express yourself in speech and writing and that you consider adapting communication depending on the recipient.
The position is a holiday service position with statutory vacation, which means a 40-hour work week.

The job includes further education. A B-class driver's license is required.

Employment: 1 position 100% and start date as agreed. Permanent position starting with a six-month probationary period. Interviews and selection take place continuously. Benefits according to the state collective agreement.
