As one of our colleagues is going on parental leave, we are now looking for a social worker (counselor) for our clinic for a temporary position of approximately 15 months, starting around October 2026. Your Workplace

The Neurology and Rehabilitation Clinic provides care within neurological healthcare, including patients with diagnoses such as MS, Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, and stroke. Rehabilitation medicine with a special focus on brain injury rehabilitation is also available here.

The clinic has two wards: Ward 34, which is a neurology and rehabilitation ward where we care for patients with neurological symptoms and diagnoses and rehabilitate patients with acquired brain injuries. Ward 59 is a stroke unit where we care for patients who have suffered a TIA or stroke.

The clinic also has a large outpatient clinic and a day rehabilitation center, as well as medical leadership responsibility and provides medical staffing at Frykcenter in Torsby. Approximately 180 employees work at the clinic.

At the neurology and rehabilitation outpatient clinic, there are several teams of doctors, nurses, assistant nurses, and social workers (counselors). The assistant nurses are responsible for the reception, assist and draw blood samples during lumbar punctures, and have their own clinics for tasks such as suturing, blood pressure checks, and ECGs. The nurses are responsible for various diagnoses: Parkinson's disease, where nurses initiate and plan advanced treatment with pumps; headaches; MS; motor neuron disease; epilepsy; brain tumors; and Huntington's disease. Within each diagnosis, the responsibility includes developing working methods, providing information to patients, and training colleagues internally.

The social workers are organizationally located under the outpatient clinic but work across our entire clinic providing psychosocial support and also participate in our teams on both our wards and in outpatient care. We are an organization with high ceilings and short decision-making paths.

Your Responsibilities

The main responsibilities consist of crisis, processing, and support conversations for individuals with neurological injuries or diseases. The work involves conversations on the ward and in outpatient care, as well as teamwork with other professions within the organization.

The role also involves collaboration with other healthcare providers and external actors. The closest work group consists of fellow social workers at the same clinic, where it is important that everyone helps each other in the group.

Your Skills and Competencies

We are looking for you who have a degree in social work. It is meritorious if you are a licensed social worker and have experience as a hospital social worker and with neurologically ill patients. We are keen on finding the right person for the position and therefore place great emphasis on your personal qualities.

As a person, you are responsible, thorough, and confident in yourself. You work independently and take initiative, while also having the ability to maintain calm and stability even in challenging situations. You are perceptive and empathetic, make well-founded decisions, and consider the best interests of the entire operation when doing so. You are good at collaborating with others and have a positive approach towards both patients and colleagues.

You should have an interest and ability to develop collaboration within the operation with a forward-looking attitude, together with managers, doctors, and other staff, to create conditions for the clinic to be an attractive workplace.
