Description

We offer parenting support to parents with children aged 0–17. We are looking for an additional employee to join our group of parenting supporters. Starting this autumn, in addition to offering support to parents, we will also be responsible for leading support groups for children.

The work takes place throughout the municipality, involving travel during working hours as well as evening work. We collaborate closely with parents, schools, and other stakeholders to create good upbringing conditions and opportunities for the children in our municipality.

The parenting support is one of several activities within the "Early Intervention Unit," which works preventively and offers early support.

Job Responsibilities

As a parenting supporter at the Early Intervention Unit, your responsibilities will include working with parenting support and leading support groups for children.

Parenting support is offered both individually and in groups. We provide individual support and guidance in the parenting role to parents who wish it, based on their needs and questions. Our parent groups are based on the "ABC Teen" method, and when you lead a group, you do so together with a colleague who is also trained in the method. The groups are usually held in the evenings.

Support groups for children are based on the "Lina and Linus" method, where you, together with a colleague, are responsible for preparation and implementation. The groups are aimed at children with separated parents, as well as children who have a parent with mental health issues or substance abuse and addiction. The composition of the group, based on age and needs, is determined by the applications received and may vary each term. Children's groups are often held from late afternoon into the evening.

We also work proactively by, for example, providing information at various venues such as schools, preschools, and more. The work is carried out in close collaboration with other employees within the municipality as well as with other partners.

You will be employed by Karlstad Municipality and will be organizationally attached to the Early Intervention Unit within the Family Department of the Employment and Social Administration.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who is engaged and driven in matters concerning preventive social work, with a focus on parenting support and support groups for children. You are an experienced social worker or have equivalent education with a background in social services and/or as a counselor. Experience in working with parenting support and leading group activities is an advantage. Training in ABC Teen and/or Lina and Linus is a further plus.

As a person, you should be flexible, engaged, responsible, team-oriented, and proactive in building and developing the operations. Since the work is done in teams and in close collaboration with parents, children, and partners, good teamwork skills are essential. You must also have the ability to work independently and feel confident informing large groups of people, for example at parent meetings, conferences, and workplace meetings. Personal suitability will be important in the recruitment process.

A driver's license is required.
