We are now looking for a GIS Technician for the Air Staff, where you will have the opportunity to develop together with others within the intelligence and security service. The work consists of interesting and varied tasks at a higher tactical command level. The position also includes opportunities for personal development through participation in exercises, method and development work, as well as competence development, both general and function-specific.
About the Unit
The Intelligence and Security Division (A2) leads the function within the Air Force, including collection and collection management at all readiness levels. The main task is to support the Commander of the Air Force and the Air Staff with decision support and situational awareness during the air combat forces' various national and international operations. The activity is conducted in collaboration with ground and naval forces as well as joint operations, both nationally and internationally, together with other nations, organizations, and authorities. The division also supports the Swedish Armed Forces' long-range strike capabilities.
Main Responsibilities
- Serve as a GIS Technician within the Intelligence and Security Division (A2).
- Ensure access to current and high-quality geographic data in technical systems to support intelligence work.
- Ensure the integration of geodata and GIS tools into the unit's IT systems.
- Support intelligence processing by processing and refining large data sets into effective work materials.
- Support intelligence processing through analysis of streaming data.
- Ensure collaboration within the geographic information service area within the Swedish Armed Forces, with society at large, and with international partners.
- Participate in other activities of the Intelligence and Security Division.
Qualifications
- Degree at university/college level in a relevant field (GIS, geographic IT, or equivalent).
- Practical experience with geographic IT, including scripting (Python, etc.).
- Education or experience within the intelligence and/or security service sector.
- Good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish and English.
- Category B driver's license.

We are looking for an analytical person with curiosity for geographic information and processing. You have good teamwork skills, are technically interested, and possess good technical understanding. You are analytical, proactive, and initiative-taking with a desire to develop and drive the business forward. You have a good ability to work independently, sometimes with incomplete decision-making support. The position requires good communication skills as you are an important part of a work team.
The Air Staff works with operational activities, which places demands on the staff. You should be flexible to handle quickly arising tasks and changing situations. You also need to be content with knowing the importance of your and your colleagues' work without having the opportunity to tell outsiders about details regarding your work.
Great importance will be attached to personal suitability.
Merits
- Completed conscription or equivalent education.
- Skills to work with FM command support systems.
- Skills to work with the ArcGIS platform, FME, or Carmenta products.
- Experience in working with, operating, or managing intelligence applications.
- Experience in practical work with AI/ML solutions within the GIS area.
- Good knowledge of air and space combat forces.
- Knowledge and experience regarding the Air Force's own units and their capabilities.
- Service in intelligence/security positions within the Swedish Armed Forces or other authorities at tactical/operational or strategic levels.
- Experience working with intelligence and/or security services nationally and/or internationally.
Other
- Employment type: Permanent civil employment starting with a six-month probation period.
- Working hours: Full-time. The position involves working irregular hours and longer continuous shifts during, for example, exercises and operations, sometimes at other locations without the possibility of going home.
- Work location: Uppsala. Business travel within Sweden and abroad may occur.
- Start date: As soon as possible according to agreement.
- Individual salary setting applies.

The primary and largest task of the Air Staff is to support the Commander of the Air Force's leadership of all wings and schools in the Air Force at all levels of the conflict scale. The Air Staff develops, plans, executes, and evaluates orders and directives issued by the Commander of the Air Force. The Air Staff consists of approximately 350 employees. The Air Force organizes and trains air, base, and command units and has the mandate to monitor and protect Swedish airspace. This is a 24/7, year-round mission to ensure Sweden's integrity. Approximately 5,100 employees, both civilian and military, work within the Air Force.
