University Lecturer in Cultural Geography and Economic Geography

Responsibilities:

The responsibilities include teaching in cultural geography and economic geography with a special focus on economic geography, urban planning, GIS, and quantitative methods.

The holder of the position must, in addition to being able to conduct high-quality teaching, also be able to take responsibility for the development and administration of the institution's courses and programs. Other administrative tasks may be added.

Qualifications:

Eligibility requires a master's degree in cultural geography and economic geography, or equivalent knowledge acquired in Sweden or abroad.

For employment as a university lecturer, unless there are special reasons, a higher education pedagogical training of at least five weeks is required, or that equivalent knowledge has been acquired in another way. Applicants must also be able to demonstrate documented pedagogical skills in urban planning and economic geography as well as applications of quantitative methods and GIS within urban planning and economic geography.

The ability to teach in Swedish and English is a requirement.

Experience in the development and administration of education, e.g., course responsibility, development of course materials is meritorious. When filling the position, emphasis will be placed on pedagogical skills and experience.

The Faculty of Social Sciences at Lund University is one of the country's leading knowledge centers for research and education in social and behavioral sciences. The Department of Cultural Geography and Economic Geography at Lund University is a research-intensive academic unit within the Faculty of Social Sciences. It combines long academic traditions with modern and strongly internationalized research and education. The department offers a wide range of education at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels, including internationally oriented programs such as the master's program in Human Geography.

The department has a diverse academic staff. The exact number of staff varies, but the department currently has 55-60 academic and administrative employees. The department educates about 400 full-time students in bachelor's and master's programs and has about 15 doctoral students.

The research environment is strongly focused on external funding and has been successful in competition at the national and European levels. The department's research and educational activities have received very positive reviews in internal and external evaluations, placing it among Lund University's leading disciplinary environments.

Lund University as a whole performs successfully in global rankings. According to the latest QS World University Rankings, Lund University is ranked 72nd globally and achieves strong positions at the subject level, including in areas related to cultural geography and environmental science. Lund University is also ranked number 1 in the world in sustainability in the same ranking, reflecting its strengths in socially and environmentally relevant research and education.
