Chief Legal Counsel at the Ministry of Social Affairs

Are you a skilled and solution-oriented lawyer with extensive experience in legislative work, with a background as a court of appeal or administrative court assessor? Do you also have experience working in the Government Offices and leadership experience? Then we can offer an exciting job with great responsibility where you will have the opportunity to contribute to the Ministry of Social Affairs and assist the government in realizing its policies.

As the Chief Legal Counsel, you are responsible for ensuring that proposals for laws and other regulations are drafted and that legality, consistency, and uniformity are maintained in the preparation of legislative matters. You will review proposals for committee directives, legal council opinions, bills, and proposals for laws and other regulations. Your task is also to work with the head of the department to ensure and develop routines for the preparation and other processes within the ministry. Furthermore, you will assist, together with the head of the department and the administrative manager, the ministers and state secretaries with planning and other tasks within the ministry. Together with the head of the department, you will have overall responsibility for quality work in the ministry. You will be part of the management and leadership group of the ministry as well as the network for chief legal counsels within the Government Offices.

Your Background

We are looking for someone who is a court of appeal or administrative court assessor with extensive experience in legislative work within the Government Offices. You also have current and relevant management and leadership experience and are accustomed to representing the organization in various contexts. Furthermore, you have very good knowledge of the legislative process in Sweden. Additionally, you have very good knowledge of public administration, its decision-making processes, and the legislative processes within the EU. You also have good insight into working in a politically governed organization and a good understanding of the demands of politics. Your language skills in Swedish and English are very good. It is an advantage if you have knowledge in the areas of responsibility of the Ministry of Social Affairs.

Your Qualities

To succeed in the role of Chief Legal Counsel, you need to have good leadership qualities and meet high standards of legal professionalism. You possess a high degree of personal maturity and an excellent ability to structure, prioritize, and organize work, as well as set goals and timelines. Your analytical skills are very good, and you have a well-developed communicative ability and strong linguistic analytical skills. Furthermore, you have high integrity, very good judgment, and are quality-conscious, even when the pace is high. It is important that you have excellent collaboration skills, are pragmatic and solution-oriented based on the needs and priorities of the organization, and have the ability to coordinate different interests.

Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability.

This is a fixed-term appointment as Chief Legal Counsel during the time the regular incumbent is not serving, but no longer than until December 31, 2025.

The position is classified in a security class, and a security clearance with a background check will be conducted before a hiring decision is made. You must be a Swedish citizen, but you may have a foreign background.
