Legal Counsel with a Focus on Data Protection

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. The Legal Department currently consists of three units – the Client Law Unit, the Authority Law Unit, and the Planning and Coordination Unit. The Authority Law Unit is responsible for areas of operational law and information management.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As a legal counsel with a focus on data protection, you will provide legal advice to the agency's management and to other parts of the organization primarily regarding personal data processing. You will continuously work to provide legal support in change and development processes, and you will also contribute to the legal governance within the agency.

Your responsibilities include developing, revising, and monitoring internal governing documents in the area of data protection. You will provide legal support to other departments at the Swedish Prison and Probation Service headquarters and participate in projects where legal expertise in data protection is requested. In your work, you, along with your colleagues, will monitor developments in the data protection area and analyze how regulatory changes and new practices in the field affect the operations of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.

You will prepare and present the agency's referral statements and draft proposals for statements to, among others, the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection. Your work may also include drafting requests for legislative changes to the government.

The role of legal counsel with a focus on data protection is independent and varied. The work involves ongoing contacts with, among others, the Government Offices, other authorities, and other parts of the operations within the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.

QUALIFICATIONS

You are a person who works well with others by being attentive and communicative. You are meticulous and well aware of goals and quality standards, able to make correct assessments and priorities. You understand complex linguistic materials in both speech and writing and can produce your own documents of high quality. You have well-founded and clear values and the ability to think conceptually about issues from an ethical perspective. Furthermore, you take responsibility for your tasks and drive your processes forward.

We are looking for someone who has:

• Law degree
• Notary qualification or other experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant
• Very good ability to express yourself well in speech and writing in Swedish

It is advantageous if you have:

• Education in the area of data protection
• Education in public access and confidentiality
• Judicial training
• Experience in qualified investigative work with data protection issues
• Experience in qualified legal work with data protection issues in the Government Offices
• Experience as a legal counsel with data protection issues at another government agency
• Experience as a data protection officer
• Experience working with issues of public access and confidentiality
• Experience working with IT legal issues

OTHER

We have high demands on our employees' security and confidentiality awareness. To work with us, you need to undergo a security review in accordance with the Security Protection Act. The position is classified in a security class, and a security review including a security interview with a background check will be conducted before a hiring decision is made. During the security review, you will be investigated as a person, your background, and your relationships from a security perspective. You must be a Swedish citizen but may have a foreign background.
