Student Coach with Mentoring and Group Assignments
Täljegymnasiet is Södertälje Municipality's largest municipal high school with approximately 650 students distributed across the NA, TE, EK, SAM, IB (International Baccalaureate), special educational activities for the SA and TE programs, and IMA (Individual Alternative).
We are now looking for a full-time student coach for a three-year project employment with the possibility of extension. This is a role for you who want to work closely with students, have a clear mission, and contribute to the school's promotion and preventive work in a meaningful way.
A Mission with a Clear Purpose and Mandate
As a student coach with us, you will have a strategically important mission: to strengthen safety, study environment, and social contexts at the school.
You contribute to increased adult presence in the school's shared environments, act as a professional relationship bearer between students and staff, and relieve mentors through deepened mentorship for students with greater support needs.
The role of the student coach is an active function in the school's core mission.
Your Role in Daily Life
You are present where it happens – in transitions between classes, during breaks, in corridors, and classrooms. You build relationships that last over time and create trust with students who sometimes have difficulty finding their place in school.
As a student coach, your responsibilities include:
- Actively meeting and conversing with students in both formal and informal contexts.
- Picking up signals of insecurity, conflicts, or exclusion and working preventively together with student health services.
- Supporting students in their education and contributing to focus, work peace, and participation.
- Being a safe adult that students seek out and who takes initiative when needed.
Mentoring – with a special focus on the social program:
- Providing in-depth support to students in close collaboration with regular mentors.
- Having closer follow-ups for students in need of extra adult contact.
- Collaborating with teachers, mentors, and student health services regarding attendance, academic results, and well-being.
Group and Class Initiatives:
- Participating in or conducting targeted initiatives in classes and smaller student groups.
- Actively contributing to the school's work with safety, study environment, participation, and attendance.
- You work both independently within clear frameworks and in close collaboration with work teams and student health teams.
Who We Are Looking For:
We are looking for someone who wants to be a significant adult in young people's daily lives and who understands that relationships are a professional competence.
Requirements:
- Post-secondary education in pedagogy, special education, social work, child and youth science, or a related field.
- Experience working with children and youth in schools or other educational settings.
- Experience in relationship-building work, preferably with students in need of special support.
Meritorious:
- Experience in mentoring in high school.
- Experience in student health or preventive safety work.
- Knowledge of low-arousal responses and accessible learning environments.
- Experience with Vklass and good digital competence (Teams, OneNote, or similar).
Personal Qualities:
- Ability to work systematically while also acting confidently in the moment.
- Good collaboration skills and ease in building trust with both students and colleagues.
- Ability to work independently within clear frameworks.
- Good communication skills in contact with students and guardians.
