We are currently looking for two individuals for a longer temporary position who want to join our team of field secretaries at the Outreach Unit.

We are developing our operations, and there are good chances that these positions will become permanent.

At the Outreach Unit, we work on change initiatives for individuals living in acute homelessness. We conduct outreach work and meet individuals who are sleeping outside or are at risk of sleeping outside. As a field secretary, you play an important role in the motivational work as you meet people in vulnerable situations. In these meetings, you will work to encourage these individuals to seek support in their situation. Your work is carried out in close collaboration with social services and emergency social services.

As part of the work towards a long-term housing solution, there are overnight accommodations in both municipal and non-profit sectors. At the Outreach Unit, there are overnight accommodations that are allocated through assistance decisions from the emergency social services and social services.

The operations are conducted both during the day, evening, and weekends, which means you will work irregular hours. In the evenings, you will always work with a colleague as you are out on the streets and squares of Gothenburg together. Your work also includes outreach work targeting EU citizens, which mainly involves visiting unauthorized living spaces and informing about the support available in the city for this target group. During daytime work, we conduct what we call linking work, where you, as a field secretary, support individuals who have slept at the overnight accommodation to move forward in their current situation. This may involve contacting social services, booking and participating in collaboration meetings, contacting healthcare, and providing support in contact with other authorities. The work also includes more practical tasks such as serving breakfast and preparing rooms for the next overnight stay. Social documentation is also part of the job as well as participating in meeting forums within the unit, department, and city-wide.

You will be part of a team consisting of eight field secretaries, one method supervisor, and one unit manager. The team also includes four treatment assistants who work awake nights at the Outreach Unit where the overnight accommodations are located. The operations also include a caretaker/cleaner who works closely with the team.

Qualifications

A basic requirement for the position is that you have a university degree as a social pedagogue, social worker, or other education deemed equivalent by the employer.

You also need to have a valid driver's license (B) as the position includes almost daily driving with a car/minibus.

Since documentation is part of the job, you need to have good knowledge of social documentation.

As the position involves communication in speech and writing with authorities, colleagues, and those we meet, you need to have good knowledge of the Swedish language in both spoken and written form.

Many individuals that the Outreach Unit meets have harmful use or dependence on alcohol and/or drugs, often as a result of or in combination with mental health issues. Therefore, it is a requirement that you have experience working with individuals in active harmful use or dependence and/or mental health issues, or other work experience that the employer assesses as equivalent.

Experience working at social services with authority exercise is an advantage. It is important to have knowledge of the welfare system, the Social Services Act, and the social services process.

The Social Administration Sydväst is one of four social administrations in Gothenburg City with around 900 employees. In the Sydväst area, approximately 120,000 residents live, and the area stretches from Billdal to Högsbohöjd and to the southern archipelago.
