About us

The forensic psychiatry unit is a unique operation within Sahlgrenska University Hospital, located in Gunnilse, about 20 minutes by public transport from central Gothenburg.

The mission of the forensic psychiatry unit is to provide individually tailored psychiatric care and rehabilitation to patients who have been sentenced to care. The unit has open and closed care facilities with enhanced security classification and also cares for patients deprived of liberty under other legislation when they require acute psychiatric specialist care. The forensic psychiatry unit has a community protection responsibility where the goal of the operation is to ensure that rehabilitation occurs in a safe manner for the patient, staff, and society. Thus, the forensic psychiatry unit has a dual mission, both community protection and care.

The unit has six inpatient care units and in addition, there is an activity house, an outpatient clinic with two mobile teams, and additional units with important functions for the operation. Our units work closely with the research unit CELAM (Center for Ethics, Law, and Mental Health).

Job description

Our interdisciplinary teamwork forms the foundation of the work with the patient. The social worker is responsible for coordination with external parties (social services, housing, and relatives) and is the team's knowledge resource regarding interventions concerning the patient from community actors. In the team, you will work together with other professional categories in the operation to carry out, among other things, care planning, risk assessments, individual support interventions, and educational and supervisory interventions towards external actors.

The social worker provides the psychosocial perspective, aiming to support patients in returning to a satisfactory life after compulsory care without relapse into criminality due to mental illness. As a social worker in forensic psychiatry, you will meet patients, collaborators, and relatives at our outpatient clinic, in their homes and residences, as well as in our readmission department. The work is varied, mobile, and above all, patient-focused.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a degree in social work and a strong interest in psychiatry. Previous experience in public authority work within social services and/or social work within healthcare is advantageous, as well as experience in psychiatry. Furthermore, it is a requirement that you are accustomed to working with various IT systems and have an openness to digital healthcare contacts.

We prefer candidates who are licensed healthcare social workers. To contribute to the mobile working method, we also expect you to have a driver's license.

As a person, you are secure in yourself, interested in social issues with an individual focus, and have an easy time collaborating. You enjoy challenges and work in a solution-focused and structured manner. You are relationship-building, communicative, and confident in your professional role.
