Special Helicopter Group (SHG)
The Special Helicopter Group (SHG) is a special operations unit within the Swedish Armed Forces' special forces system (FMSF), located at the Helicopter Wing in Linköping. SHG's primary tasks are tactical transport, intelligence gathering, and air support. Like other units within FMSF, SHG has high demands for availability from specially selected personnel, with extensive operational experience and a high level of education and competence.
About the Position
As a MATERIAL MECHANIC at SHG, you will hold the role of a material mechanic within the unit's aircraft maintenance company. The company includes several supporting functions, including aircraft maintenance, aviation material, and flight safety material.
The work is varied and takes place at different tempos, situations, and environments. Your main tasks will involve maintenance and follow-up of the unit's aviation material and flight safety material, i.e., material related to aircraft maintenance services both nationally and internationally during exercises and missions. As a material mechanic, you are an important part of the whole in the aircraft maintenance platoon. In the long term, you will have the opportunity to help drive and develop the combat unit in both your own function and in other areas.
Main Responsibilities
- Conduct maintenance and follow-up of the unit's aircraft maintenance material, flight safety-impacting ground material, and mission equipment, both nationally and internationally during exercises and missions.
- Contribute to maintaining a high availability of the unit's assigned helicopters.
- Contribute to the development of the combat unit and your own function.
Several other tasks will be added, and the work places very high demands on initiative, problem-solving ability, and the willingness to see and understand what needs to be done to develop the function's working methods. The position involves maintaining readiness for national and international operations, sometimes with short notice.
Qualifications
- Completed GMU/military service with passing grades.
- Approved according to FM FysS.
- Good ability to express oneself in speech and writing in Swedish and English.
- Driver's license class B.
- Swedish citizenship.
Meritorious
- Group leadership training.
- Previous experience in aircraft maintenance or mechanical work.
- Military driver's license.
- Driver's license classes BE, C, CE.
- Forklift driver's license.
- Previous international service.
Personal Qualities
- Service-minded and responsible.
- Good collaboration skills and self-driven.
- Resilient and robust with the ability to handle rapid changes.
- Detail-oriented and structured.
- Safety-conscious.
Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability in connection with selection tests.

Employment rate: Full-time, scheduled working hours
Work location: Linköping
Start date: Week 631-632
Employment form: The employment is based on the Swedish Armed Forces' collective agreement for the employment of group leaders, soldiers, and sailors (GSS/K). This may involve a 6-month probationary period and thereafter employment for up to 8 years with the possibility of extension for 4 years.
