Special Helicopter Group (SHG)

is a special operations unit within the Swedish Armed Forces' special forces system (FMSF) located at the Helicopter Wing in Linköping. SHG's primary tasks are tactical transport, intelligence gathering, and air support. Like other units within FMSF, SHG has high demands for availability from specially selected personnel, with extensive operational experience and a high level of training and competence.

About the Position

As a COMMUNICATION SOLDIER at SHG, you will either be part of the unit's staff in the S4/6 section or in the staff and logistics platoon at the base company. S4/6 and the Base Company encompass several supporting functions, including aircraft maintenance, communications/IT, logistics, and fuel.

The work as a communication soldier is varied and operates at different tempos, situations, and environments. Your main tasks are to support the unit with communications/IT capabilities, both in everyday life and within the framework of exercises and operations. In the long run, you will have the opportunity to help drive and develop the combat unit within both your own function and other areas.

Main Responsibilities

  • Support the operation of the unit's various command support systems.
  • Support signal protection services.
  • Train the unit's personnel on various communication systems.
  • Be an integral part of planning and follow-up of missions within the framework of exercises and operations.
  • Contribute to the development of the combat unit and your own function.

Several other tasks will be added, and the work places very high demands on personal initiative, problem-solving ability, and the willingness to see and understand what needs to be done to develop the function's working methods. The position entails maintaining readiness for national and international operations, in some cases with short notice.

Qualifications

  • Completed basic military training/conscription with passing grades.
  • Good ability to express oneself in speech and writing in Swedish and English.
  • Approved according to FM FysS.
  • Driver's license class B.
  • Swedish citizenship.

Meritorious

  • Group leader training.
  • Previous experience as a signalist, communications technician, or equivalent.
  • Communications training.
  • IT training.
  • Driver's license or military driver's certificate, class BE, C, CE.
  • Previous international service.

Personal Qualities

  • Service-oriented and responsible.
  • Good collaboration skills and also self-driven.
  • Resilient and robust with the ability to handle rapid changes.
  • Detail-oriented and structured.
  • Security-conscious.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability during the selection tests.

  • Employment rate: Full-time, scheduled working hours

  • Start date: Week 631-632
  • Employment form: The employment is based on the Armed Forces' collective agreement for the employment of group leaders, soldiers, and sailors (GSS/K). This may involve a 6-month probationary period and thereafter employment for up to 8 years with the possibility of extension for 4 years.
