Special Helicopter Group (SHG)

is a special operations unit within the Swedish Armed Forces' special operations system (FMSF) located at the Helicopter Wing in Linköping. SHG's primary tasks are tactical transport, intelligence gathering, and air support. Like other units within FMSF, SHG has high demands for availability from specially selected personnel, with extensive operational experience and a high level of training and competence.

About the position

As a VEHICLE MECHANIC at SHG, you will be part of the unit's staff and support platoon at the base company. The base company includes several supporting functions, including security, communication, and logistics.

Work is usually carried out in smaller groups where the ability to collaborate, attention to detail, and humility are prerequisites for the flexible working methods that should permeate the operations. You will be part of the logistics function under the leadership of logistics officers and technical managers. You will also handle the helicopter squadron's other equipment such as generators, weapons, and heaters. Individual interests will guide your tasks. Exceptions include equipment that is part of flight technical service. In addition, you will perform tasks such as security guard duties and transport services. Much of the work will be carried out independently or in very small units. You will support the unit both at the base and in the field. In the long term, you will have the opportunity to help develop the combat unit in both your own function and in other areas, and we encourage you to apply for specialist officer training.

Main Responsibilities

  • Work as a vehicle mechanic and solve a wide range of logistical tasks.
  • Contribute to the development of the combat unit, your own company, and your own function.

A number of other tasks will be added, and the work places very high demands on initiative, problem-solving ability, and the willingness to see and understand what needs to be done. The position involves maintaining readiness for national and international operations, sometimes with short notice.

Qualifications

  • Completed GMU/military service with approved grades.
  • Good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish and English.
  • Approved according to FM FysS.
  • Driver's license class B.
  • Swedish citizenship.

Meritorious

  • Group leader training.
  • Training in technical service at the mechanic level.
  • FMEAF and similar.
  • Towing training.
  • Security guard training.
  • ADR certificate class 1, 3, and tank.
  • Driver's license or military driver's certificate class BE, C, CE.
  • Forklift driver's certificate.
  • Completed international service.

Personal Qualities

  • Detail-oriented and structured.
  • Service-minded and responsible.
  • Initiative and problem-solving ability.
  • Good ability to collaborate while also being self-driven.
  • Resilient and robust with the ability to handle rapid changes.
  • Security-conscious.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability during the selection tests.

Employment rate: Full-time, scheduled working hours
Work location: Linköping
Start date: Week 631-632
Employment form: The employment is based on the Swedish Armed Forces' collective agreement for the employment of group leaders, soldiers, and sailors (GSS/K). This may involve a 6-month probationary period and thereafter employment for up to 8 years with the possibility of extension for 4 years.
