The Unit for Health and Civil Society at the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs comprises about 30 employees and works with policy areas that promote good living conditions in Sweden. The unit is responsible for issues related to public health, mental health and psychiatry, dental care, alcohol, narcotics, tobacco, doping, health protection, and infection control, civil society, sports, religious communities, and youth issues. The unit is also responsible for the governance of the Public Health Agency, the National Board of Health and Welfare, and the Agency for Youth and Civil Society Issues. The unit is characterized by teamwork and a development-oriented working method. We work together to make people's lives a little better every day.

The group for infection and health protection and dental care comprises about 10 employees and is responsible for legislation in the dental care area, infection control area, vaccination programs, health protection issues, work against antibiotic resistance, preparedness for cross-border health threats, and the management of COVID-19. The group is also responsible for the governance of the Public Health Agency.

Responsibilities in the role of case officer for public health issues focusing on infection control:

  • develop and analyze materials for the government's positions on public health and infection control issues,
  • participate in coordinating efforts related to public health and infection control,
  • be involved in EU cooperation and international collaboration on public health and infection control issues,
  • draft bills, letters, and departmental letters (DS),
  • work within the framework of the government's governance of authorities, and
  • contribute to budget-related work.

Your Background

We are looking for someone with a completed academic education in social sciences, law, natural sciences, or another relevant field. Furthermore, you have current and relevant experience for the position in independent societal-oriented investigative work within the Government Offices, authorities, regions, or international organizations.

It is advantageous if you have worked with cross-sectoral issues involving several units and departments and have a good understanding of the government's governance of authorities. If you have experience working with issues related to infectious diseases and have worked in a politically governed organization combined with an understanding of the Government Offices' role and function, this is also advantageous.

Knowledge of epidemiology, issues related to infection control, and knowledge of the organization, tools, and methods of health care and infection control is advantageous.

Very good knowledge of Swedish and good knowledge of English in both spoken and written form is a requirement for the position.

You are curious with a desire to develop as a case officer, and you have the ability to quickly understand and analyze complex issues and make swift decisions. You should have good collaboration skills and be communicative, and it is important that you thrive in an environment where your more long-term and strategic work is combined with quick orders with short delivery times.
