Project Description
Research Subject: PhD Candidate in Machine Learning
PhD Candidate 1 will be part of an EU project "Digitalization of Smell: From Natural Statistics of Olfactory Perceptual Space to Digital Transmission of Scents".
The goal of the project is to digitalize the sense of smell, laying the groundwork for understanding how the sense of smell works in humans and building AI models of these. We are looking for a candidate with experience in working with time series data (EEG), signal processing, and machine learning.
PhD Candidate 2 will also be part of the same EU project. The goal is the same: to digitalize the sense of smell and build AI models. We seek a candidate with experience in computer vision, machine learning, and video processing.
Supervision: Professor Danica Kragic is proposed to supervise the doctoral candidate. A decision will be made upon admission.
Eligibility for Admission
To be admitted to doctoral studies (Chapter 7, Section 39 of the Higher Education Ordinance), the applicant must have basic eligibility:
- completed a master's degree, or
- completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at the advanced level, or
- acquired equivalent knowledge in some other way, within or outside the country.

Information on Admission and Employment
Only those who are admitted to doctoral studies may be employed as doctoral candidates. The total employment period may not exceed what corresponds to full-time doctoral education for four years. An employed doctoral candidate may, to a limited extent (maximum 20%), perform certain tasks within, for example, education and administration. A new employment as a doctoral candidate is valid for a maximum of one year, and the employment may thereafter be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time. For studies that will conclude with a licentiate degree, the total employment period may not exceed what corresponds to full-time doctoral education for two years.
