Project Description
PhD Subject: Technology and Learning
The need to understand and manage complex societal issues such as climate change, AI, and sustainable food supply is growing, while Swedish students' interest in STEM subjects is declining.
To meet these challenges, science and technology teachers with deep subject knowledge, didactic competence, and the ability to create meaningful and engaging teaching are required. Teacher educators play a key role here.
The doctoral student will work with and contribute to:
- research in NVTe-didactics, including areas such as cognitive science, digital learning environments, and AI in teaching, focusing on the future of teacher education
- strengthening Swedish teacher education and meeting future needs in STEM
- improved conditions for a more equitable, research-based, and future-oriented school.
The project is conducted within the research group LEaP (Learning, Education and Pedagogy), which is part of the Department of Learning, investigating education and learning in technology and natural sciences. The research group gathers researchers and doctoral students with expertise in both pedagogy and technology, mathematics, and computer science. The doctoral student will belong to a Swedish national research school in the didactics of science and technology for teacher educators – FontD.
Supervision: Professor Arnold Pears is proposed to supervise the doctoral student. A decision will be made upon admission.
