Project Description

Doctoral Education Subject: Technology and Learning

The doctoral school LärA-AI investigates how generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) affects teachers' working environment and professional role.

When AI systems are used in planning, assessment, and decision-making, both teachers' tasks and how the work is experienced change. At the same time, research shows that many teachers already have a pressured working situation with high workloads and increased administrative demands. Therefore, new knowledge is needed about how AI affects working conditions, responsibilities, and competence needs.

The doctoral school is a collaboration between KTH, Uppsala University, and the University of Gävle – three research environments with expertise in educational science, digitalization, working environment, and AI. The doctoral student will conduct practice-oriented research in collaboration with schools and teacher education programs, within three themes:

  • The impact of AI on the content and organization of teaching,
  • responsibility, ethics, and professional assessments, and
  • collegial learning, digital competence, and professional development.

The project is conducted within the research group LEaP (Learning, Education and Pedagogy), which is part of the Department of Learning, investigating education and learning in technology and natural sciences. The research group gathers researchers and doctoral students with expertise in both pedagogy and technology, mathematics, and computer science. The doctoral student will belong to the doctoral school LärA-AI – The Working Environment of the Teaching Profession in an AI-Transformed School.

Supervision: Professor Arnold Pears is proposed to supervise the doctoral student. A decision will be made upon admission.
