KTH announces a doctoral position focused on the development of a robust tool for Application-Level Synthesis (ALS), intended for composing applications from pre-synthesized algorithm implementations using High-Level Synthesis (HLS).

The main distinguishing feature of the proposed ALS tool is its focus on a coarse-grained reconfigurable computing substrate based on Silicon Lego building blocks (SiLago). SiLago enables the computation of physically design-aware cost metrics during design space exploration. The SiLago framework is part of several EU, IMEC, and national research projects and is used in both industrial applications and research on next-generation CMOS technologies.

Supervision: Professor Ahmed Hemani is proposed to supervise the doctoral student. The decision will be made upon admission.

Eligibility for Admission

To be admitted to doctoral education (Chapter 7, Section 39 of the Higher Education Ordinance), the applicant must have basic eligibility:

• completed a degree at an advanced level in electrical engineering or computer science/computer engineering, or
• completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at an advanced level, or
• acquired equivalent knowledge in some other way, within or outside the country.

- Good knowledge of design and verification of digital systems in HDL
- Strong background in computer architecture
- Good knowledge of programming, data structures, and compiler techniques
- Applicants must not already hold a doctoral degree at the time of recruitment
- Good communication and presentation skills, as well as very good knowledge of English in both spoken and written form, as required in daily work.
- Good collaboration skills, self-drive, and creativity

Information on Admission and Employment

Only those who have been admitted to doctoral education may be employed as doctoral students. The total employment period may not exceed what corresponds to full-time doctoral education for four years. An employed doctoral student may, to a limited extent (maximum 20%), perform certain tasks within e.g., education and administration. A new employment as a doctoral student is valid for a maximum of one year, and the employment may thereafter be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time. For studies that will conclude with a licentiate degree, the total employment period may not exceed what corresponds to full-time doctoral education for two years.
