Project Description
Research Subject: Electrical and System Engineering
The Department of Automatic Control is seeking up to two PhD candidates with a strong background in control engineering, mathematics, and modeling, and a keen interest in network theory.
The project lies at the intersection of network dynamics, learning, and control theory, aiming to address theoretical challenges within networked cyber-physical-human systems (cphs). These systems are characterized by humans in interconnected societies making decisions while interacting with a cyber-physical system or control system, with applications including complex socio-technical systems such as smart cities. The project will include learning complex dynamics from big data and rigorous characterization and (data-driven) modeling of decision-making dynamics across networked cphs, in addition to the development of new tools for designing and assessing the effects of control strategies or interventions.
The Department of Automatic Control conducts leading research in networked control systems. The PhD project will include potential collaborations with KTH Live-in Lab and engagement in experimental design. Furthermore, considering the natural interdisciplinary aspect of the proposed network perspective for cphs, collaborations with researchers from other disciplines will be encouraged.
Supervision: Assistant Professor Angela Fontan and Professor Karl Henrik Johansson are proposed to supervise the PhD candidate. Decisions will be made upon admission.
Eligibility for Admission: To be admitted to doctoral education (Chapter 7, Section 39 of the Higher Education Ordinance), the applicant must have basic eligibility:
