Research Subject: Electronic Systems

KTH is developing a design framework inspired by Lego called SiLago.

SiLago is part of many EU projects and national projects and is used for real industrial applications as well as for next-generation CMOS technologies. Specifically, as part of several Chips JU projects, KTH is seeking a PhD candidate to develop a robust tool for High-Level Synthesis (HLS) aimed at building a library and implementing commonly used functions. The key differentiation of this HLS tool is that it will target a CGRA structure and leverage SiLago's ability to be aware of physically design-aware cost metrics in its exploration of the design space.

Supervision: Professor Ahmed Hemani is proposed to supervise the PhD candidate. Decisions will be made upon admission.

Eligibility for Admission

To be admitted to doctoral education (Chapter 7, Section 39 of the Higher Education Ordinance), the applicant must have basic eligibility:

• completed a master's degree, or
• completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at the master's level, or
• acquired equivalent knowledge in some other way, within or outside the country.

- Good knowledge in the design and verification of digital systems in HDL.

- Strong background in computer architecture.

- Good knowledge in programming, data structures, and compiler technology.

- Good competence, or the ability to acquire competence, in the area of optimization in discrete space.

- Applicants must not already hold a doctorate at the time of recruitment.

- Good communication and presentation skills, as well as very good knowledge of English in both spoken and written form, as required in daily work.

- Good collaborative skills, self-drive, and creativity.

Information on Admission and Employment

Only those who have been admitted to doctoral education may be employed as PhD candidates. The total employment period may not exceed what corresponds to full-time doctoral education for four years. An employed PhD candidate may, to a limited extent (maximum 20%), perform certain tasks within e.g. education and administration. A new employment as a PhD candidate is valid for a maximum of one year, and the employment may thereafter be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time. For studies that will conclude with a licentiate degree, the total employment period may not exceed what corresponds to full-time doctoral education for two years.
