Academic Resource is now looking for a Senior Level Automation Engineer / Team Leader for an Automation Group at a Life Science company in Uppsala.

This is an opportunity to lead an engaged team of automation engineers within a production environment where high operational reliability is the focus.

The position is an initial consultancy assignment.

Start 02/03 2026 and lasts until 31/08 2026.

Scope: full-time, 40 h/week.

About the department:

The automation engineers within the System Support Section are responsible for:

• Supporting operations and performing corrective actions in the control system.

• Key role in projects to secure the site's automation standards as the business grows.

• Leading and operationally executing activities related to our automation strategy.

• Developing the automation area for better functionality, operator experience, and output.

• Ensuring routines, documentation, and support together with system suppliers.

About the team:

System Support consists of 12 automation engineers and 7 system engineers.

System Support is part of the Manufacturing Engineering department, which is part of the company's large-scale chemical production operations in Uppsala.

The automation engineers we are looking for a team leader for have a passion for automation and digitalization. The team consists of both senior and non-senior automation engineers.

The team is a learning organization where everyone helps each other and shares knowledge.

About the tasks:

As Team Leader for the automation group, you will play a central role in leading, coordinating, and developing automation work. You will work both operationally and strategically.

Main tasks include:

• Leading, coaching, and developing a team of automation engineers.

• Together with the group, ensuring stable operation of the control systems on site.

• Planning, prioritizing, and following up on the team's work.

• Driving improvement projects within automation, process control, and digitalization.

• Responsible for the group's work related to the management and further development of the control systems.

• Ensuring documentation, standards, and working methods.

Requirements:

• Degree from a university or college with a relevant focus, or experience from a similar role, or extensive experience from production where automation systems are a daily tool.

• Previous experience in a leadership role, as well as experience from the process industry.

• At least 5 years of work experience.

• Very good Swedish and English, both spoken and written.

Knowledge of DCS, preferably ABB 800xA is a plus, but not a requirement. Also Unicorn, PLC.

Soft skills:

• Enjoys a leadership role, has a good ability to create structure, engagement, and security in the team.

• Solution-oriented, communicative, and used to working cross-functionally.
