Postdoctoral Researcher in Industrial Engineering with a Focus on Market Studies and Crisis Preparedness

Do you want to work with Market Studies and crisis preparedness, supported by competent and friendly colleagues in an international environment? Do you want an employer that invests in sustainable employee relations and offers secure, favorable working conditions? Welcome to apply for a postdoctoral position at Uppsala University.

The Department of Civil Engineering and Industrial Technology consists of three divisions: Quality Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Construction Technology and Built Environment. The department has over 100 employees and conducts its research and education both at the Ångström Laboratory in Uppsala and at Campus Gotland. For more information, see the department's website here (https://www.uu.se/institution/samhallsbyggnad-och-industriell-teknik/). This position will be located at the Division of Industrial Engineering in Uppsala.

Industrial Engineering is a broad, interdisciplinary field that spans several sub-areas from organization and management, innovation and entrepreneurship, to industrial and social marketing within technology- and innovation-intensive operations, from automation and optimization to machine design, production, and production systems. For more information, see the division's website: here (https://www.uu.se/institution/samhallsbyggnad-och-industriell-teknik/avdelningen-for-industriell-teknik).

In today's society, it is important to strive for increased crisis preparedness. More knowledge is needed on how markets and public procurement as steering tools can contribute to society's crisis preparedness. The position advertised here is part of a project funded by the Swedish Research Council aimed at investigating these issues, with an empirical focus on medical technology products and how access to these can be ensured in times of crisis. The theoretical starting point is the interdisciplinary field of Market Studies, which, often with the help of theoretical tools from Science and Technology Studies, assumes that markets are not out there but are created through various types of practices. The project is conducted in collaboration with researchers at the Stockholm School of Economics and University College Dublin.

Job Responsibilities

The job responsibilities mainly include research and up to 20 percent teaching. This means that you actively contribute to the implementation of the research project and develop your own research ideas within the framework of the project's focus. The work includes, among other things:

  • initiating, planning, and conducting sub-studies within the project's framework, including formulating research questions, qualitative and possibly quantitative data collection and analysis, as well as writing scientific articles,
  • contributing to the administration that the above entails.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Industrial Engineering, Marketing, Business Administration, or another related social science or interdisciplinary discipline, or
  • a foreign degree deemed equivalent
  • experience and knowledge of Market Studies or Science and Technology Studies and qualitative research methods
  • very good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written.

The degree must be completed by the time the employment decision is made. Primarily, those who have completed their degree within the last three years should be considered. When calculating the three-year time frame, the deadline for applications is the starting point. If there are special reasons, such a degree may have been obtained earlier. Special reasons include leave due to illness, parental leave, or union duties, etc.

Desirable/meritorious qualifications

Meritorious are:

  • knowledge of the medical technology field and previously published studies within Market Studies in highly ranked journals
  • proven ability to co-author scientific articles
  • good oral and written communication and presentation skills
